Entries this day: slowly slowly 2:17pm Saturday 18 March 2000 Happy Birthday Maggie and Molly!! Work has been going more slowly than I had hoped. Conceptually, everything is correct, but I'm finding that I just don't know the syntax of SAS well enough to quickly spot errors. Happily, I have just finished the login page of the project. (gotta start somewhere!) It accepts username and password, checks database to see if it's a valid combination. If so, it further checks to see if they need to change their password. If not, it logs them in. If so, then asks them to change it, comparing the two hidden fields' equality. Then it (pretends to) write the new password to database and logs them in! The (pretends to) above is where my SAS skills are lacking. I'm not sure yet how to modify the record in the dataset. Actually I might have an example of how to do it; I'll check. Oh, here's a funny mental image for you: When I crash the SAS server by feeding it particularly bad code, I have to terminate the server process and restart it. I can terminate it from my computer, but I have to use my boss's computer to restart it. His computer is way over in his office (and he's not here), so I have put an extension on his keyboard cable, stretched it all the way from his office to my office, where it *almost* reaches my desk. His keyboard is on the floor about 2.5 feet from me. So I got a yardstick, taped it to the [enter] key on the numeric keypad. Now I can restart the process by stepping gently on the yardstick! prev day next day |
