Entries this day: Glass fame ultimate Glass 8:01am CDT Wednesday 31 May 2000 Fortunately, we are not yet unpacked, so a rather large cardboard box made a great shattered glass container after the great crash last night. Fortunately, I cleaned it all up without cutting myself a single time. This is amazing since I was wearing only my glasses. - - - Oh - last night, I had more reason to be grouchy at M$. Charyl gave me a old hard drive so that I may install our investment club finances and stuff on it. I have an old computer (PII 133) with no drive so I hooked it up. It booted into Win95, and "detected new hardware" all over the place. Certainly this is to be expected. I didn't have the drivers for all the devices it found, so I clicked, "Don't install driver (Windows will not prompt you again)" several times. After it finished, it was all, "Windows needs to reboot" so I rebooted it and it gave me a Blue Screen (not the Blue Screen of Death) indicating something like, "Windows has detected an incompatible driver installed... your system will be halted. Press any key." I pressed any key and the machine powered down. Great. - - - I'm going to work now. See ya! fame 1:38pm Wednesday 31 May 2000 One of our clients (I'll call him Scott Carr), has worked with our company at least as long as I've worked here. I've seen Scott Carr's email address on the mailserver logs, heard Kevin and Karla talking about conversations with Scott Carr, Scott Carr this and Scott Carr that. Today, Scott Carr called to ask about the status of a project, and I got to talk to him. How weird. Scott Carr and he's talking to me. The feeling wasn't as profound as the one I got when Deborah said, "Rob, Sam Malone is on line 2 for you." It certainly would be less profound than, "Rob, Amanda Peet is here to see you." But, you know, how weird is it that I almost feel like I've spoken with a famous person? The Scott Carr. Talked to me! He's just a guy, working 9 to 6. He's not in the movies, or on the radio (heck, I'm more famous than he!).. just a guy. ultimate 10:33pm CDT Wednesday 31 May 2000 Ultimate was great fun tonight! I'm super pleased that for the second week in a row, Wende came out to watch me play! She even bought a collapsable chair so that she may enjoy watching for longer without sitting on the ground or standing the whole time. My game was great - I had a few great catches, including a couple tall jumping catches that I would not have made in recent history. I made several scoring catches, and threw several scoring throws. Even blocked a couple of other players' throws. I came out of the game with only one slight injury: I made a slide-on-the calf catch, scraping my left calf a bit. Super happy that Wende came out to watch!!! - - - Before Ultimate, Wende took me to Best Buy, where I got my 11,000th day present from her: a Handspring Visor. It's basically a Palm Pilot (it uses the Palm OS). Apparently the guys who made Palm Pilots quit the company to start Handspring. (That's a rumor Wende heard from someone at her work) Yay! Now I can write journal entries while away from home and work! Most super-duperly, I'll be able to write at the OKC rally this weekend. Super great!!! prev day next day |
