Entries this day: Day_of_Word KTRU Lunch_posse Maggie Meg_and_Heather Movie_bowling_for_columbine San_Antonio janette Day of Word 11:26am CDT Friday 25 October 2002 I just added myself to the m-w Word of the Day. I think in addition to having the pronounciation guide, they should have a clickable audio link pronouncing the word. Definitely. I'll email them and let them know. permalinkKTRU 11:37am CDT Friday 25 October 2002 Just got a message from Freddy at KTRU: On Friday, October 25, 2002, at 11:12 AM, Freddy wrote: You are hereby invited to the First Annual Third and Final EAS Training Session, this Saturday in the month of October on the day of the twenty-sixth in the year of two thousand two. The event will be a proper event for gentlemen and gentlewomen of good standing and good taste, so for those of you planning on "partying 'til the cows come home" on Saturday, please do not bring any of that behavior to the training session. That means no "booty shaking" no "O.P.P.'ing" and for those planning on going to NOD, no "showing off what God gave you". Thank you for your consideration. -Freddy NOD stands for Night of Decadence, Rice's annual R-rated party. I replied: What? You don't want shaving cream smeared all over the consoles? No boob prints on the windows? No silly string decorating the station and no beer on our 40+ year old vinyl???? His reply made me laugh. Actually laugh out loud. .... i thought it'd be fun to make people extra aware that at KTRU, we expect only the most proper and polite behavior, and anything suggestive or risque, like those horrible sex pistols or some band with a name like jackie-o-motherfucker, will simply not be tolerated!!!permalink Lunch posse 12:46pm CDT Friday 25 October 2002 Josephine, Tara, Logan, Julia, Ellen, Amanda all came over for lunch, gossip, old picture gawking, and physics homework. I'm impressed and pleased that the school is making use of internet in what seems to be a logical way. They have homework assignments available via pdf files, and they can turn in their answers online. Cool thing is that each student has basically the same assignment, but with different numbers filled in so they can't cheat by copying answers. They would have to actually explain the techniques used to get the answer. Good stuff. Tara fell asleep and Ellen went in to Josephine's room hollering, "wake up wake up wake up!!!" 2:14pm They just left and I've mostly cleaned up the kitchen after they left it a mess. permalinkMaggie 3:57pm CDT Friday 25 October 2002 Maggie might come to Dallas to see me this weekend! I'll clear it with Janette that we have nothing planned tomorrow and confirm with Maggie tonight. How totally awesome! I'm really thankful for Maggie's willingness to come see me; she is so great!!!! permalinkMeg and Heather 5:51pm CDT Friday 25 October 2002 Today I suddenly was missing KTRU a lot, so I turned them on via their internet stream. Listened to a few DJs that I don't know at all or don't really know, and then Meg and Heather came on. I know Meg; she's the DJ who took my application when I turned it in all those years ago. I know Heather; she was the station manager at that time. Anyway, I called them to say HI and during the conversation learned that today is Meg's birthday and that she was born in 1976, year of the dragon. I was all, "uh oh, according to the Chinese calendar, you and I won't get along at all." "Really?" "yeah." "Hmm. Well, Dragons are better than dogs." "Dragons are bigger than dogs, but not better. Dogs are loyal and.." I cut myself off. "Wouldn't it be funny if during the course of this conversation it went to shit and we hated each other after that?" "Definitely." "Dogs are loyal and obedient. Dragons are big and scary." "Does it say that?" "I'm sure it doesn't say that about dragons, but .. I'm saying that [as a dog]." I subsequently invited her to my 12,000th day party. It will be a blast. permalinkMovie bowling for columbine 10:35pm CDT Friday 25 October 2002 Excellent. So glad that Karina pimped it quite so well. Janette and I went with Johnny Wolf, the owner of The Wolf Shop (sp on Wolf?), where I have gotten some work during my adventure. He's a pretty laid back cat, so it seems. Janette has known him for a while and they were definitely joking around a lot in the same sorta way that points out ironies in the world and in ourselves. Awesome. Anyway, the movie fucking ruled. But it made me just like, embarassed to be an american. I wonder if that's why I'm running off to Japan? On some level, yes. I'm sick of the US and policies and its fucking bullshit way of bullying around other countries. The summary of US history was great and horribly sad, and oh so true. fucked up shit. I'm glad that Michael Moore was able to do something good during the making of the movie. Congratulations to him. My mind was thoroughly taken off of my missing the San Antonio Rally during the movie. When we got out of the theater though, it hit me again. I began to cry outside of the bookstore where a series of children's books featuring a girl named Kaya (name of Johnny's daughter) caught Johnny's eye. I can't explain why it hit me then, but .. yeah, probably because I was thinking of youths in general. Bang. I could be at San Antonio now, listening to all your stories and zaniness and all that. I'm sorry to be forced to let you down. permalinkSan Antonio 10:27pm CDT Friday 25 October 2002 I feel really really really really sad about not being able to go to San Antonio. I cried with Janette hearing my sadness. My greatest fear, I told her, is that youth will be all, "where's Rob? where's Rob? where's Rob?" and that they will somehow think that maybe I don't love them quite enough to overcome all obstacles to attend the rallies I said I would attend. Know that I love you all more than most other things in the world. It has taken a pretty big wacked out situation to keep me away, and I trust that it is all ultimate, for the best for you, my beloved youth. - - - - Bill called my cellie while they were on the way to the rally. Whole posse of youth, whose names I dare not mention since I'll miss some. But like 10 names from Tulsa I think. So awesome. I'm really thankful for them thinking of me. I love you all. permalinkjanette 11:17pm CDT Friday 25 October 2002 Talking with Janette helped a lot tonight. I'm thankful for her as a true friend. (I'm thankful also to Maggie, who is willing to drive up to see me tomorrow. Another true friend.) Janette is doing yoga stretches now. I'll offer to read more of Stranger in a Strange Land when she's done. permalinkprev day next day |
