Entries this day: Silent_Football_Rules Today Walk robert_jensen zzzz Silent Football Rules 11:07am CST Thursday 9 January 2003 For a day now, I've been working on writing up the Rules for Silent Football. They're not 1/2 finished yet; probably not 1/4 finished yet, but I've shown some dedication to getting them done now. Maybe my Japan job confirmation has boosted by enthusiasm some. permalinkToday 11:09am CST Thursday 9 January 2003 I have found that Sean's 50 foot ethernet cable is long enough for me to type while enjoying the weather outside on the front porch. Aww yeah. I'll be typing up Nick Carter and Ryan McCarthy's Silent Football biblical passages now. permalinkWalk 1:55pm CST Thursday 9 January 2003 Okay, it's absolutely beautiful outside. I'm going for a walk. I invited/encouraged/begged Jack to go, but ... a body at rest tends to stay at rest. 4:38pm Walk was nice. Clear sky. Sun. Breeze made it a bit cool, but definitely workable with barefeet and shorts. I talked to the guys working near the manhole that had been spewing unlimited gallons of clear water on the ground when Sally and I went for a walk. Turns out the water was spewing to empty out the pipe (84 inches diameter by 5 miles = a lot of gallons) so they could test it for fractures and such, which they do every 6 or 8 years. permalinkrobert jensen 6:41pm CST Thursday 9 January 2003 Just got a call from Johnny, who invited Jack and I to dinner to see Robert Jensen, a really cool journalism professor from UT. Jack is pretty pumped. I hope he talks to him after the talk. 9:19pm Nice. He suggested that another important thing we can be doing, besides going to city council meetings, and going to rallies, and writing letters, is just talking to people out in the world, especially those who are in the 1/3 of the population that has a sense the war is wrong, but can't really articulate why. Two things to talk about: short term - no war in Iraq. That we are being fed lines about fear of nuclear arms, and liberating Iraqis and anti-terrorism. But actually it's all just so we can control the flow of the oil, and control the flow of profits from that oil. And long term - no US Empire. Has there ever been a benevolent empire? Absolute power corrupts; are we immune to this tenet? Due to the nature of our military, our taking over the world may be the end of it. Why are we the only nation pro militarization of outer space? Find more of his stuff here: http://uts.cc.utexas.edu/~rjensen/home.htm - - - - Afterward, Jack went up to inquire about the cost of Robert's book. "How much is the book?" "Twenty dollars." Instantly, Johnny Wolf slapped twenty dollars on the table and handed Jack the book. Johnny Wolf rules. permalinkzzzz 12:09am CST Friday 10 January 2003 Allison came by today looking for Sean. She chatted with Jack and I for a bit. Said she broke up with her boyfriend, and that she is rather excited to be back in New York soon, her first time to be there and be single all at once. Her hairdye color is Manic Panic's Deadly Nightshade, I think. Wow; what a name. - - - - Chatted with Ryan, Jackie, and Annie some online. Asked them if they could think of any more Silent Football names that people kept consistent over several games. - - - - Finished the bulk of rules to Silent Football. permalinkprev day next day |
