AAAM

8:51am JST Saturday 24 January 2004

AM comes early these days it seems. janette and I showered to get the disgusting smoke smell off us and then slept for 1.5 hours. Ooooh that alarm came quickly.

I hit snooze once, but was smart enough to know that I didn't have enough time to snooze enough to help; I had already set my alarm 40 minutes later than on a normal Saturday morning. After I had been up a bit, I sat on the bed to put on my socks and realized I was nearly falling asleep sitting there.

oops get up get up get up

Called Carla (who asked an obvious question, "did you have fun last night, bud?" (which I would quickly discard before asking (but not have an alternative)) and I was like, "yeah most def," plus thanks for asking) to make sure she was up, and then called Cory (Janis answered) to make sure they were up. Phone call with Janis lasted 8 seconds. "good morning." "HI, yeah, we're up" "okay see you."

Whew. I have successfully made it to Kawasaki without falling asleep or missing any stops. (helps that this is the last stop on the line, but hey; I'm conscious.) I'll probably be at work before anyone else and will take a short nap therefore.

Work

6:42pm JST Saturday 24 January 2004

Junko and Rumi took the Tokaido line from Shinagawa, intending to go to Kawasaki. Once they got on the train, they recognized how comfortable were the seats, so they slept all the way to Odawara (Hakone (900+ yen away), which is where janette, Fred and I went on our planned Fuji-Q Highland day) and back to Kawasaki, and then slept in Nova for an hour and 1/2.

When I arrived, the lights were on, but the door was locked. I assumed it was the cleaning crew who had turned the lights on, so I took a short nap. Then I heard Rumi and Junko's sleepy voices as they opened the door for Lyle who arrived and knocked on the door. I didn't consciously hear him knock, so I was surprised to find him already inside when I got back to the teachers' room.

The gang from the previous night trickled in, with mostly genkiness from all (except, ironically, from Carla (at first)) and we drank energy drinks and basically cheered each other on through the day.

Good stuff.

I got in trouble twice today: once for having worn non-professional shoes (as I couldn't find my work shoes this morning) and once for switching a lesson with Carla. I don't think I'll be rehired for another contract; I've been in trouble a lot recently it seems.

mmmm dinner

11:05pm JST Saturday 24 January 2004

I slept while janette went out and bought dinner from a deli called Eat Healthy or Earth Healthy or something like that next to a bakery. Both times she's been there, the girls behind the counter were super friendly like they were delighted she was there. Wow.

janette brought me dinner in bed. Fantastic presentation of a variety of morsels from rice to chicken to tomago, to something else to another thing too.

Mmmmmmm.

monster's ball

11:46pm JST Saturday 24 January 2004

janette rented Monster's Ball, but I couldn't stand to watch it just before bedtime. I've never seen it, but I didn't like the opening scenes' racism and sexism and stuffed emotions and many "negative" qualities that I've worked to release from my life. Plus I was just shivering from the tension as they're preparing to kill this cat whose character has only been developed as a man who is calm, caring, encouraging and apologetic.

I intend to watch it with her tomorrow when it's more like daytime instead of the last thing before bed.
