Asatte

12:51pm JST Wednesday 9 June 2004

In Japanese, 明後日(あさって)(asatte) means the day after tomorrow. Miki and I are at the theater now to watch the Day After Tomorrow, tickets for which I bought yesterday. We jut ate okonomiyaki at Kawasaki BE (name of building) on the 8th floor in the cook-it-yerself okonomiyaki shop. I saw a toned-down yamamba woman there; and then 3 others who were even more toned down; I wonder if it's common for them to chow okonomiyaki in the morning.

Tomorrow I'm going to see Troy with Hitomi (after going to Yomiuriland with Dan (to go bunjee jumping!!)).

Someone has probably already mentioned this, but Uranus *does* come before
Neptune.

The recitation of the order of the planets was one of the first things I
ever memorized, after the alphabet and numbers. I can rattle them off like a
mo.

Now. It's Neptune, right, not Uranus that has the funky orbit? Because
at times, Pluto is not the farthest from sun (minus the wacky extra
planet), but Neptune is. At least, I'm assuming that its Neptune,
because that's the next farthest from the sun, and I don't think the
third farthest would have such a wacky orbit that it would outdistance
two planets. Or I would remember that it outdistanced two and not
one. So yes. I've just proved my own point that Neptune is the second
(third - I must tell you I still sorta think that other planet isn't
really a planet, just too big of a rock to be called a meteor)
farthest from the sun.

Oh Jackie!

Wow!! Thank you! I very rarely get corrections on my journal; so no,
I had not heard this from anybody else. See, I have the wires crossed
in my mind; I "learned" it by trying to remember if "your anus" is
farthest away or second farthest away. For members of the general
population, I can say, "I don't want your anus anywhere near me," and
so I remembered it as farthest away. I think I thought of the idea of
the mneumonic before I determined if it was accurate or not. Damn.

Okay, in the acronym MVEMJSUNP, there is "SUN" (I hate putting the
period inside quotes). Maybe that will let me remember.

Thank you for being such a cool astronomically aware person. You are
awesome. :-)

I have to zoom (I'm going to watch "The Day After Tomorrow") A few
days ago I said in Japanese, "Just now, I thought tomorrow I will
watch Day After Tomorrow" The epitome of my ability to make puns in
Japanese.

In Japanese the name of this movie is pronounced "Za Day Afta Tomoro-"
which has 'no meaning' in Japanese. For fun I say "asatte," which
means the day after tomorrow, when I mention this movie in Japanese.
(It's cool they have a word for day after tomorrow.)

Okay I have to go! Quit being so cool that you'll understand
everything my brain is thinking so that I want to keep talking to you!

Actually don't quit that. I love your brain and the you that goes with it.

	Hugs
	- Rob!!!!!

Hahaa I love that line.

Yes, OH wait!! Fuck I have to go, BUT

PLUTO is the one with the eccentric orbit. The gas giants are stable
as shit. Neptune rotates at a funky angle, (or is it Uranus?) but
their orbits are near circular. Pluto, the captured planet, has the
nutty orbit.

	See you!!

Miki and I hung out after watching Day After Tomorrow. Man my timing sucks; my train is here.

4:37pm

Oh good I got a seat.

Day After Tomorrrow was pretty good; I dunno if I'd watch it twice, but yeah, good story. I'd just like to point out for the record that there is evidence of the Atlanticcurrent slowing down. The idea presented in the movie is real. I don't know aobut -151 degrees in several seconds, but several degrees per year has been predicted as quite possible. The US Government has started researching the possibility of such a .. wait, they have been researching what to do if that scenario happens.. the assumption being that huge climate shifts will cause crops to fail and resxtructure the world economy; the economy would/could collapse and so forth. I doubt I'll put a link to the paper , but there is a 100+ page pdf floating around that is the result of the research and suggested steps to take before it happens.

Miki is cool because she chatted with a little kid that befriended us at Muza while we were sitting on the curvy wall in front of the white squirrel tail and butterfly shaped statues. I was too shy about my non-Japanese knowing self to say much of anything; I've really clammed up a lot while living here. Not that I talked all that much when I diddn't live here.

She was like, "where's your mom" and "take care" and "how old are you/" All things that seem likely a 5 year old would want to talk about. I just don't seem to think of these things..

Chowed Chinese food with Yuuko, Tomoko and Sumidasan. Rocked over to a sports shop to buy some hiking shoes for me to climb the Fooj with Sumidasan in July. They had to crack out some Columbia Sportswear to get some big enough for me.

Now we're at Karaoke, where I found that the book doesn't list all the songs available. I typed in the 4 digit code for Eminem and found "Hallie's Song" and "Business" were both available though unlisted. I performed "Business" relatively well considering I haven't done it perfectly ever, and I haven't done it in Japan at all.

The girls are entertaining us well with all variety of Japanese songs that I've never heard before. Sumidasan chose "You are my Sunshine" and one other that I know but can't remember now. Good stuff to hear him sing; I don't think he sang last time we went to karaoke.

I need to learn a Japanese song sometime; I'm thinking of the Smap song that I heard a million times when I first got here, but it's not popular anymore.
