So far today

1:43pm JST Tuesday 3 August 2004

Ummmm... Oh I had a dream this morning that included allowing myself to relax and just enjoy life. My mom was there, all dressed nicely and couldn't enjoy the river with us at that time. All about choices.

Talked to Jen who said her weekend job gave her a raise. Awesome.

I wrote to Ian offering my computer slash runner services in September. I basically gave him free choice over everything in September. October 21 - January 31 goes to P-B, if I get that job, but he can have September.

I studied Japanese a bit; learned some new vocabulary:

たいよう 太陽
すいせい 水星
きんせい 金星
ちきゅう 地球
かせい 火星
もくせい 木星
どせい 土星

That's all I remember now. That is the sun and first six planets in order. Now, rest assured, I don't know all the vocabulary that most people who know *this* vocabulary know.

Work

8:38pm JST Tuesday 3 August 2004

Work has been slow today. I got a student at 2:30, and have had two students since then. I've been able to study some Japanese, but haven't really been in the mood for bigtime studying, so I've read news and slept.

I've got a no-show right now.

One of my students wants to volunteer in Sudan. Wow.

I wrote to Jen's uncle today offering my computer skills, and have had to resist spending/wasting time looking for a free internet access point so I can get my email (using ssh) because I don't allow lycos to know my site password anymore.

Something is going to change soon. Either working for Jen's uncle, working on P-B, or riding my bike somewhere far away.

Option three requires buying a bike.

I saw a fly bike yesterday; it was a mountain bike, branded Panasonic. The model name was cooooooooooool and I was like, "I want that bike just because the model name is so cool," but I can't rememember the model name. That's how cool it was.

Searching online for the model name brings me to learn there are GPS devices for bicycles now. Awesome. I'm gonna get that shit for my next bike. Though it seems the prices are like $650 for the device, more than my original bike.

I would nearly pay that much to have my bike back, so I might pay it to have a GPS device to track my bike.

Hmm. Still can't find the model name. Can't seem to find a list of models of panasonic branded bicycles.

Anyone willing to donate a SmartMedia card or two?

How about an Olympus DS-2000 digital recorder?

fun with cicadas

12:43am JST Wednesday 4 August 2004

While several people were downstairs watching Michael Moore taunt people on The Awful Truth (?), a cicada came to visit the lights in the room. Rene happened to be there, which was good, cause we white/westernized folk weren't about to capture it and get it outside.

(( actually, when it first came into the room, it just sat on the floor next to the open door through which it had come. I was prepared to nudge it with my sandaled foot back out the door, but it flew into the room before I got too close. I'm glad it flew before I was close; I woulda freaked. ))

Rene swatted at it a few times and then caught it in his hand. We simultaneously winced, ooooed, and clappped. He calmly pretended to throw it toward a couple of the more wincey people (which didn't include me, though I was definitely in the I'm-not-catching-it list) before he tossed it outside.

Wow.

ikumi

2:49am JST Wednesday 4 August 2004

Met Ikumi tonight; she moved in today. Rene (a superstar of my journal tonight) fixed her light. I hung her light after Rene fixed it, but he fixed it. I could have fixed it, I'm sure, but I had never previously messed with these types of lights, and I don't have replacement parts for them.

Oh, Ikumi is a website designer. I don't know what sites she's designed, but I'd like to talk to her sometime about it.

tom is leaving

2:24am JST Wednesday 4 August 2004

Wow.....

Tom is leaving Japan for London. How... unexpected (at least for me)... After we had so much fun on his bike last night.

I met やえ tonight, the woman with whom Tom was being affectionate last week or two weeks ago. I was glad when I learned that he had not gotten that close to Kuli in one day of hanging out; Kuli != Yae.

(but sometimes Cool = Yay)

I sat in his room a bit while he packed. Mostly I was just kinda sitting in the same room as Yae, but sometimes I was helpful in packing.
