Entries this day: Bike Work gmail overnight Bike 12:04pm JST Monday 23 August 2004 Wow. Nice bike. Only five thousand frogskins. permalinkWork 8:35pm JST Monday 23 August 2004 Work was pretty rockin' today; I'm off early by giving one of my lessons to Louise and I'm on the way home now. Very high percentage of awesome lessons today and I'm really happy about that. Last lesson was with Eiko whose Everyday field said NO CHIT CHAT; CHALLENGE! and I was like, "yeah buddy" and was zing zing zing in the book after confirming with her that she wanted to use the book and her furrowed brow but ability to answer 90% of the questions correctly let me know we were in the right ballpark for challenges. Awesome. I relaxed a little at the end and we chatted about movies and stuff and I gave her the Metropolis Magazine from the lobby and overall I think it went well. Nice. First two students were new to me, or second and third were, anyway, we had good lessons as well though I don't remember about what. Umm. good day. - - - - Going to bounce by my house for a second to get my overnight stuff and meet Hitomi out in Kawasaki (I say "out" as if Kawasaki is further from the Tokyo, but it's closer to Tokyo than my house) where, of all things, we will spend the night at her friends's house. Should be fun. Should get to speak some Japanese. Oh, and I found out the name of the place where I want to hike early next month. Miakejima. permalinkgmail 9:17pm JST Monday 23 August 2004 The only thing I don't like about gmail is that it's web based, so I can't do email right now on the train. But everything else is awesome. Actually I did send them some feedback: I think clicking the orange message bar that appears after I do something should mean undo. This should work for everything that isn't sending email nor permanently deleting email. permalinkovernight 12:02am JST Tuesday 24 August 2004 Big fun at Hitomi's friend Ikue's house. After a lovely meal with her five year old son Katsuki bounding about the living room with Olympics on TV, I joined him for games of hammer throwing (*) (in the hallway (from the dining room to his room)) and then baseball (**) in the upstairs bedroom (trampling the beds (futons on the floor) in the process). Rules were Calvinball style and it was great fun. (*) using rolled then crushed sheets of paper for hammers (**) using a crumpled hammer as the ball and a paper fan as the bat Tons of Japanese. Five year old style. Now it's time for a shower and hot bath and then bedtime. - - - - Funny. I was fishing for a plastic squid, crab, octopus, and two fish with a plastic fishing rod and hook in the bathtub while Hitomi was washing her hair. Katsuki came in to say Hitomi's cell phone rang. I offered him the octopus, but he wasn't hungry. Hitomi asked him if it was okay that he came in, and he was like, yeah. 2:02am haha exactly two hours. Yammer yammer yammer with Hitomi and Ikue at the kitchen table after a small cup of ice cream each. They are great friends since high school and are すごいペラペラ日本語 (sugoi pera pera nihongo) (really good at Japanese). I could sorta kinda 70% understand their topics of conversation, and understood like 20% of their chatter. Fun fun fun. permalinkprev day next day |
