Fight

9:19am JST Monday 20 September 2004

Enormous bigtime fight with Hitomi last night. I didn't stop lying down, but I considered breaking things. I didn't raise my voice, but I considered kicking her out for good.

She had said insincerely, "go ahead and sleep," and then she woke me up by bonking my knee. "I can't sleep."

She made many statements including how she didn't feel that I talked to her enough. Most of her statements were simply statements, but I have a feeling that in Japanese culture, they would prompt more of a response. When I said, "Hitomi, I know you are angry. I acknowledge you," she was like, "and?"

And I was like, "and nothing. I acknowledge you," which is what I thought was what she ultimately wanted.

She didn't know the word, and I told her I didn't know it in Japanese. She rudely threw her translator to me. (Note: she didn't throw it at me, and I was still prone on the bed, but she threw it and it landed at my hands, hitting my fingers. She didn't say anything.)

I knew it was her expensive translator; hers is denser than mine. I had visions; had it been mine, I would have thrown it across the room, shattering it into a million pieces. (or maybe 5) I was really angry.

I quickly dove into my feelings, blessing them, thanking them. Typed "acknowledge" on the screen and showed her.

She wasn't impressed.

In the end, we both feel asleep, although she spent her anger-energy on removing all her stuff from my closet and drawers. I didn't try to stop her; I thought it was a constructive thing for her to do.

In the morning, she apologized, and I was like, "it's cool, but one more time, and you're out."

Tired

5:00pm JST Monday 20 September 2004

I'm tired.

Heading to Hitomi's house now; we're going to see "I, Robot" tonight.

I figured out how to get emacs to print a list of numbers:

(defun countify (number)
  (while (<= number 100)
    (princ (number-to-string number))
    (terpri)
    (setq number (+ 1 number)))) ; do C-x C-e before this comment

(countify 5) ; do C-x C-e before this comment

Next steps will be how to make the start and finish numbers optional and then how to put the output into the kill-ring.

I don't know why these don't work on my version of emacs.

(defun countify (&optional (start 0) (finish 100))
  (setq number (start))
  (while (<= number finish)
    (princ (number-to-string number))
    (terpri)
    (setq number (+ 1 number))))

(countify 5)

(defun argtester (a b &optional (c t) (d "yes"))
  (mapc #'print (list a b c d e f)))

(argtester 'aa 'bb 'cc 'dd)

i,robot

12:26am JST Tuesday 21 September 2004

Saw I, Robot with Hitomi tonight.

I liked the cars with spherical wheels. That's pretty cool, and makes sense, I think.

I liked how they took the three laws and took them to a new seemingly inconsistent conclusion. I don't know if the book did the same.

I didn't like how Sonny was like, "I did not kill him!" and then turns out that he did at the end. It would have been cooler if he ultimately admitted, "Dr whatshisface made me promise... he made me break the window."

So a secret could still be kept, and Sonny would never have lied. That would have been cooler.

Will Smith is a hoss.

Damn.

Oh, I like how when the girl was feeling up his arm, they did not have sex. How refreshing.
