Dream

10:32am JST Wednesday 8 December 2004

I was standing behind Jen (or maybe Tammy), who was a bit taller than me, giving her hugs and kisses while she was doing dishes. She was non-responsive to them.

Meditation

11:20am JST Wednesday 8 December 2004

Was tempted to set up the gmailFS, which would require installing other things first, which could require a lot of time, but first set up the completion code Fred sent me (to allow tab to only complete directory names when doing a cd command) in my .login file, but first figure out the name of my .login file for tcsh.

I knew that each of these could lead to enough tangents that I'd not get to meditation today, and lose the routine after 1 day.

Meditation dream

12:27pm JST Wednesday 8 December 2004

I started meditating while sitting upright, and probably lasted 20 minutes before I lay back on my bed and fell asleep. During my upright portion, I tried various ways to relax, basically looking for an upright position that I can just relax all parts of me and stay. I tried auralizing (visualizing with the ears, my word may or may not be a word) Robert Monroe's voice telling each part of my body to relax. I didn't get very far with that, basically to my ankles (starting from my toes). I tried watching the stream in my brain, not focusing on the thoughts. I tried simple awareness of my breathing, without controlling my breaths.

I lay down, with the theory that I could do all this and be relaxed, and I fell asleep dreamt

I was with Jimmy in a bathtub; we were just talking, but to outside observers, it probably appeared that we were having sex, so we became to be in Mr Van, in the back, with no one steering, but driving along highways in Houston. Daniel said something, but I was like, "I'll steer" and then he was like, "no" and I said, "okay, you go to the driver's seat, and I'll steer just using my mind," and when he got there, I was like, "okay, now turn right!" as sortof a joke, that I had steered using my mind to use my voice to tell him to steer.

We ended up in a dead end, but with an opening, into which we went and found a guard dog. A mere puppy, actually, sleeping behind bars that were spaced widely enough for him to walk right through. (This dog looked a lot like (Molly and Will's) Scout.) He woke up, a bit dazed from sleeping, and came to say HI, and then remembered he was a guard dog, and thoroughly chomped down on my arm. He was hanging there, relentlessly biting down, and I swung him back and forth a bit to test his tenacity. He stayed, and I tired of the game, so I squeezed the back of his jaw, forcing him to open his mouth. He stopped trying to bite me, and I left, looking back to find him snuggling down in the suitcase I had left full of my clothes. I surmised he was happy to have something warm to sleep in, instead of on the concrete floor.

I woke up, and began to write down my dream, but I couldn't tell how long it had been since I had lay down, so I realized there was something wrong. Ah, I was still sleeping.

I lay there a bit, recalling my dream, then heard Richard's voice downstairs, saying "where's Rob?" (I thought), but when I went down, there was no Richard, and no one said, "Richard was looking for you," but I saw Jen's room door open (!) Jen's back already!

So I went down to her room, and wondered why they were watching Japanese TV, and then I found it was Roger's room next to Jen's, with his door opened fully covering her door.

I got a message from Sanami's mom:

WE'D LIKE TO STOP TAKING YOUR LESSONS SHE WILL START TAKING ENGLISH LESSONS ATHER PRESCHOOL.

Well, at least I got 1.5 hours' notice.

But seriously, it's good because I needed to cancel our lesson two weeks from now to go to Osaka with Hitomi; we're going to Universal Studios.

Think

12:57pm JST Wednesday 8 December 2004

I think I should get out of my room, and my jammie jams (not in that order), and (if it's warm) outside on my bike. If not, just get some foodage and read Bill Bryson's universe book.

miki movie MR Incredible

12:46am JST Thursday 9 December 2004

Saw MR Incredible with Miki today. Before we bought tickets, she reminded me that I could get 500 yen off the ticket price by going to a ticket shop near the theater. That's enough savings to pay for a snack and drink (if I buy them at the convenience store (which I did)). While we walked to the ticket-shop, she held my arm; I was quite happy for that.

I was also happy to hold her hand during the movie. It seems that when I haven't seen Miki in a longer time, she is more affectionate when I see her.

The movie was good; with some quite funny parts. Not as funny as Finding Nemo, and I pretty much didn't like the bouncing lamb story as a Pixar short before the movie, but it was cute.

After the movie she took me to the game center, where we were able to turn in our tickets for 30 tokens (10 for my ticket and 20 for her ticket). There were some video games available, but we tossed them all into a token-eating lottery type thing, where the slowly oscillating pusher stacks coins more than pushes them. She kept mock-accusing me of having played this game before since I was "doing so well," and I was like, [yeah, I come and play for seven hours every day.] and she goes, [really??] [No, not really.] Of course the machine is rigged for the appearance that one is doing well. We would get about 90% of our coins back over time, and as we kept playing, slowly ran out. I could *easily* see how people get addicted to those games. We didn't buy any more tokens.

But we did buy Okonomiyaki at Kawasaki BE. I was able to read the menu much more effectively than when we first went last year, but still not enough to realistically know what most items were. Just enough to find a mix and a drink that I would like.

We talked about her upcoming trip to North Carolina for the holidays (three weeks is awesomely long for Japanese), but how she won't be able to take a vacation next year. Wow.

It became time to go, and I walked her to her bicycle, on the way to which she showed me a cheap sweets store, where I bought some candy and chocolate type stuff for 10 to 50 percent less than I've seen it in convenience stores. Awesome.

I really wanted to kiss her as we parted ways, but a hug had to suffice.
