Entries this day: Airplane Arrival At_the_hostel Fun! Nightmare ZZZZ

Airplane

8:00am JST Saturday 05 February 2005

The plane is about to leave. Due to snow in Sapporo, we might have to land in Hakodate or come back.

The dude next to me reeks of cigarettes, but that's okay cause I have fart stinkbombs lined up to counteract his stinkiness. I don't know what's got me so farty, but it's very convenient right about now.

Also, we are on the second floor of this plane. Cool. Also, I'm really tired. Also, I forgot the other thing I was going to say. I'm really thankful for Hitomi putting this trip together.

9:40am JST Saturday 05 February 2005

Arrival. From the second floor of the airplane it's really a different view. I look out and think we're not moving that fast (for a taxiing jet) and then look closer to down and see we're going pretty fast (for a taxiing jet). Wow.

Man, that stinky dude is wack. He wanted to sit by the window, slept throught he flight and then wanted to be out of the plane first. Stupid crap; if you want to be off the plane first, sit by the aisle. Get a brain, jack!

This is the plane we flew in on.

Arrival

10:05am JST Saturday 05 February 2005

We're on a train now. This train has a more advanced heating system than what's in Tokyo. Maybe. The temperature differential was quite noticable when I got on the train.

Everything is smothered in snow, well, covered in snow, and it's snowing. even more.

We barely made this train, so we had to sit in separated seats.

Hey the train beside us arrived after us and is leaving just before us. I wonder if we are on a local, but that train arrived just seconds after us, so it's different than in Tokyo.

Snow snow snow snow!

Train stations we've stopped at (inconsequential) Minami Chitose, Chitose, Inowa(?)

I'm mesmerized by the snow; which is blowing around as if it owns the place.

I wonder how the train tracks are kept clean. Each train with a snow plow on front? Only the rails are visible.

Just before Eniwa there was construction for a highway over the traicls. between between Eniwa and, get this Sapporo-beer-teen station. We didn't stop at that station.

Life still seems to go on despite this snow which would definitely shut down Houston like oh my god. Trains and cars are running. trucks. this train is full of people. parking lots are full of un-snow-stopped cars.

It's only -1 degree according to Hitomi, which matches my observation that snow is beginning to slough off some rooves some of the steeper rooves. I occassionally see this.

There is a lot of space here in the outskirts of Sapporo. Large expanses of snowy fields with leafless trees waiting for spring to make their next move.

Cool; we are about to arrive in Kita Hiroshima (North Hiroshima).

At the hostel

11:40am JST Saturday 05 February 2005

In the hostel now, but not yet allowed to go to our rooms. It's nice and warm inside. Snow is blowing around in little balls, like round styrofoam, but it's not styrofoam cause it melts into water.

The hostel is a four (at least) story modern building with at least fifteen rooms per floor. (except the ground floor which is hangout area.

Right now, it's basicaly vacant; only me an Hitomi, a woman cleaning the place and the receptionist and her little radio (tuned to an English station) are here.

Fun!

6:01pm JST Saturday 05 February 2005

I'm suuuper tired, but I must say I had a lot of fun working on the snow/ice sculpture. We arrived near lunch slash breaktime.

6:07pm

But right now the news is Hitomi and I can't talk and I never try to talk to her. Apparently.

7:57pm

The hostel burned pictures to CD for each of us. Nice benefit.

The hostel group and our creation

This is me digging out a clump of dirt from the snow.

Me building up the edge of the platform to make it square.

Nightmare

7:50pm JST Saturday 05 February 2005

I felt like a lunky sack of shit for being so mean to Hitomi for no apparent reason. She's nothing but nice to me and she's always thoughtful, but I don't always see it that way and I'm like shut the hell up and leave me alone when I get to the point where I just want to be alone, and she's just like, "why don't you want to talk to me?" and I'm like "I see you all the time; compare seeing you three days a week to seeing my other friends one day per month or 6 weeks."

Fight fight fight and I tried to turn it around and talk about something *real*; she wants to talk, fuck talking about how cold it is outside, so I asked her for 60 different answers to "who are you?" and she argued that it ought to be "what are you?" (an English teacher) so I changed it to what are you and she answered a few, but we never got to anything good.

Then she's like, "okay, do you want to go to sleep?" and though my desire to go to sleep had been the topic of discussion for some time, I gave it some thought and then said "yeah."

Then she goes, "wait!"

And I go, "(sigh) what?"

And all she wanted was to give me my clothes and crap that she packed in her suitcase, and I just felt like such a shit for having her take care of me, but me not appreciating it.

Maybe I need to not have anyone take care of me like that anymore.

I'm tired as crap and just want to sleep but I'm going to write that I had been inspired to write a long letter to Hitomi "thanks for being so nice; I'm sorry I suck; this is why I got mad; etc etc etc," but I'm just too tired to do it.
