Entries this day: Gmail_chaos Today lesson richard_byebye_party Gmail chaos 10:41am JST Thursday 10 February 2005 I'd like to have known how to do this (it's so simple!) back when I first got my gmail account, but I'm doing it now because there won't be any time in the future where it's easier to do. I'm forwarding all my thousands of messages that I had on my computer to gmail. Most of the thousands are from janette. All of the thousands are going into my gmail inbox, and they are all timestamped as received today. Everyone I've found online agrees there's no way around this. 5:50pm As of the last check (around 15 minutes ago), I had 139MB used in gmail. Before the big dump, I had been using 56MB. permalinkToday 5:51pm JST Thursday 10 February 2005 I've basically farted around on my computer all day, emailing with Dude and Fred. We made up a new google game, and this one is better than variants of "return exactly one match" games because posting the entries won't skew the results. It's the Google Calculator Game! Using google's calculator function, enter only operations on bizzare units (no numeric constants), and try to end up as close to 1 as possible. Generally, good entries use four units. Using three is acceptable, but not as cool. Using five or more is awesome. Hmmm, how can we score these simply, giving bonus points for more units? Scoring is kinda flocked up cause in one case we are trying to zero in on 1, and in another case, we're punishing (moving away from 1 ?) for not using enough units. But then it becomes tricky describing which way to punish, depending on the sign of the result. I'm not online right now, or I'd look up the examples that we thought of today. Hmm. Once we decide on a scoring method, I think I can write a script that accepts and scores the results! permalinklesson 6:10pm JST Thursday 10 February 2005 Going to Shibuya now for Takako's lesson. permalinkrichard byebye party 5:09am JST Friday 11 February 2005 (It's 5:17am; I assume the torrent of email has stopped. 167MB = 17% used.) I cooked two things of roboyaki to add to the pile of food for Richard's byebye party. It was well received, and I felt really happy. Riki, Tanya, Hitoe, Matteo came (previous residents (Tanya was a frequent guest, actually)) Aaron, me, Richard, Jackie, Ikumi, Jen, Tetsuya, Hitomi, Katrina, Olivia (just moved in!), Shoko, Yuki, Dean, Shoko were all downstairs at one point. Very lively. We played Draw-Hiragana-With-Your-Butt, and Hitoe was able to identify my ¤Ê on the first time I drew it. - - - - Aaron told me he'd bet me $1000 that Bush would be president in six years; he says lawmakers are working to either suspend the constitution during war or to say that since he wasn't elected the first time, but just selected by the courts, he has only been elected once so far. What a fuckin' nightmare. - - - - People were planning to go to karaoke, and I was planning not to, cause I was done being with people and I didn't want to be trapped in a smokey room. Matteo flirted inappropriately with someone and his girlfriend got really mad and didn't come to Karaoke. I wanted to be able to help, but the timing didn't work out. Went to Karaoke with Richard, Tanya, Aaron, Matteo, and Yuki, and it was pretty much great fun. I performed Eminem's "Business" and "Without Me," plus Sir Mix-A-Lot's "Baby Got Back," and Deee Light's "Groove is in the Heart" and maybe others I can't remember. People said I did well, though it was hard for me to accept their compliments as more than just drunken ramblings. Matteo and Yuki left a bit early and didn't pay. Tanya was super drunk on the way home. She was tooootally trying to go the wrong direction. Got to talk to Hitoe some after arrival home. permalinkprev day next day |
