Gmail continues to rule

1:31pm JST Saturday 02 April 2005

Now their front page looks something like this:

Gmail is an experiment in a new kind of webmail, built on the idea that you should never have to delete mail and you should always be able to find the message you want. The key features are:

  • Search, don't sort.
Use Google search to find the exact message you want, no matter when it was sent or received.

  • Don't throw anything away.
Over 2000 megabytes (and counting) of free storage so you'll never need to delete another message.

  • Keep it all in context.
Each message is grouped with all its replies and displayed as a conversation.

  • No pop-up ads. No untargeted banners.
You see only relevant text ads and links to related web pages of interest.

Right now as I'm typing this, the scrolling number thing says 1832 someodd megabytes of space, but the static one says "Over 2000" which leads me to believe that spinner will just keep on spinning. I further believe this will be their front page for a while.

Logged into my computer from Hitomi's via AirPort, the 801.c whatchamadoodle that allows wireless access. No problem, but slow.

Borrowed a non-crossover cable from Dave to connect them. Fast. Crazy fast. And though it's not a crossover cable, it works fine to connect the computers. Awesome.

Only thing is I couldn't get AppleSharing to work over the crossover cable. May try again, but I think I'll just use FTP. I have a huge directory structure of all my images to copy, so I don't want to use the command line; it doesn't seem willing to create directories during an mget operation.

Today I'll try to download a better graphical ftp program that will do it.

Just chillin' online. Have done one quintark transaction.

Jen, however, was run nearly ragged today. OM is just ... unfathomably short sighted. He asks her to do two things at the same time and then is surprised when she stops doing one of them. I am unable to help her cause she's on the phone with him so I can't hear what he's asking and the requests are trivial anyway. Man; it's a weird situation.

I bought her a tasty beverage when she asked and tried to keep asking her if I could do anything. Generally speaking I could not.

Strangers

It's not Japan that I dislike; it's strangers in Tokyo that I dislike. Such pokerfaced passive aggressivity towards everyone by everyone just makes me want to kill everyone. I like to think it's just big Japanese city Tokyo that's done it, but I don't know.

I was right. Gmail has continued to count upwards, just at a slower rate. It's increasing about 20 bytes per second. 2050 megs now.

Watched a couple (four) Southpark episodes (thanks, Jackie!) with Hitomi. Satoko and Jasmine watched a couple as well. Then we ordered pizza and watched most of _Needful Things_ and then the end of _Love Actually_ downstairs while sharing a bit of Sam's 熱燗 (あ つかん)(熱いお酒)

_Needful Things_ was actually pretty good; I thought it was a good story concept. _Love Actually_ got me teared up when the girl answered ("Yes is be my answer") in the restaurant.

Kellie from Gaba has invited us to the ちんちん festival tomorrow. Pictures fo sheezy.
