Jacket

11:16am JST Thursday 21 April 2005

During the process of cleaning out my room, I decided I would not keep the jacket Jon gave me before I came to Japan. I emailed him to see if he wanted it back, and he said I should mail my mom; she had given it to me.

She said that she *brought* it from Texas to Japan when they came in November 2003, and I never thanked her for it. Fuckin' hell. I have a completely different memory, and am sad to imagine that I never thanked her and that for all this time she has felt unappreciated around carrying the jacket over. Damn.

So I decided the best thing I could do is take some pictures of me appreciating the jacket and sending those to her. And offer the option of sending the jacket back to her or giving it away here.

dan!

18:00pm JST Saturday 21 April 2005

Well I've had a long day and I'm now sitting in the Millenium House garden with Jen, Rob and Jackie. Its Jennifer's birthday so we are drinking champagne and eating cheese. Rob and I have played hackey sack and I've actually taught him CRICKET!! Wow, its been a nice day but my god I'm tired!! Rob wasn't sure about cricket but by god he has an eye for batting! He didn't quite get the hang of bowling but saying that, my wasn't brilliant, its wasn't that bad either, just not quite up to scratch!

Cool,

Dan's in town! It was really great to see him come through my door; I had forgotten at that minute that he would be coming, but I knew in general he would come today. Hitomi was totally surprised.

We all went outside to enjoy some drinks and pudding. Jackie came down and while she chatted with Jen, Dan and I hooked up a game of HSJ, which turned into a game of cricket in the street after a single pitch worth of broom hackeysack baseball. We found that a wicket could easily be made with the nearby scraps of wood. Soon our game moved to the street and we pulled up part of a gutter lid to act as a backstop.

Jackie had come down to chat, so she and Jen gabbed while Dan and I played cricket. After the game, I was a bit hungry and whipped up a batch of broken corn chips and mozarella cheese in the microwave.

Jackie JenJackie then brought out some champagne and cheese and crackers which we enjoyed readily. Two types of lovely cheese. One was a half roll of verigated cheddar and soft white cheese. It had garlic in it as well; pretty interesting.

Katrina came down after beating her goal of sleeping until 5pm and the girls talked about girl stuff while Dan journaled and I sat quietly listening, but not really paying attention; I was focused on cheese and crackers.

I'm headed to Yokohama to meet Hitomi for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, which I've seen twice, but enjoyed it enough to see it again (and pay for it this time). Kinda a reward to Jim and Kate.

8:23pm

Turns out there is no late show of Eternal Sunshine, so we're going to see a CGI-filled Constantine starring Keanu Reaves.

But that's not why I'm writing.

ice cream

8:24pm JST Thursday 21 April 2005

We have over an hour to wait for the movie and a little ice cream shop was just outside the theater. Awesome. Crepes, fruit, a few different ice cream flavors. Money.

May I have cookies and cream and mango mixed up?

No.

Why?

(no reason)

Try hard.

We can't.

Why?

(no reason)

Just put them both in a bowl and I'll mix them up.

Can't.

Why?

(no reason)

This is why I hate Japan. No one can think beyond a rule. Do you want a customer? Do you want some money? Or do you want to coddle your inventory so carefully that you can't even put a few fucking pieces of sliced mango (that are already sliced and waiting) with some cookies and cream? How much does cookies and cream cost? how much do mango pieces cost? Fucking hell man just put them in a fucking bowl!

If my Japanese were better I would be dangerously mean in situations like this. Stupid Japan.

saw Constantine

12:13am JST Friday 22 April 2005

We watched Constantine tonight. Actually a pretty good movie. I liked how Gabriel was a bad girl and how Satan was duped and how the bee, roach, crab, snake demon attacked John. I liked something about the bowling alley scene, but I don't remember what. The fly crawling out of his eye was nuts. ewwwwwwwwwwWWWW!!

Oh, my favorite scene in the movie was when Satan walked into the room where his son was trying to get out of the heroine.

Real Matrix kinda stuff. It woulda been cool had they shown that in realtime as well.

It's a good thing I didn't see the movie with Miki.

On the way into the theater I stopped by Thailand.

As we left the theater, both escalators were rolling down, so I was able to ride the handrails down.
