Entries this day: AM_transcribed Big_waves Piano one_big_entry AM transcribed 8:04am SGT Friday 03 June 2005 This is the first day of classes. The first classes have started. My class doesn't start until 9:30. I hope all the teachers are doing well. I've just woken up. I'm going to go up to breakfast. I don't have a clear brain yet, but I trust today will be a lovely day of classes, and it will be all good. Rar. Like dat. permalinkBig waves 1:09pm SGT Friday 03 June 2005 The ship is rocking well. Some people are seasick. I'm loving it, though. Classes are over. Basically a storm came in between the first and second class. I lost two of my students from the second half of the second class. Rie and Toko were like, "later!" all tossing around. It was kinda fucked up; I was like, "aight let's go upstairs so you can get some fresh air," so the girls who were not sick went upstairs and the girls who were sick left the class. But the good thing is I just got food in time: class and food ended right at 2pm. 2:26pm I wasted no time getting trunks and running up to the pool, but once I got there they were closing it. 2:54pm I just finished talking to Armstrong, a huge guy from Jamaica with strong arms. He's got a huge handshake. He said we should definitely go to Ocho Rios, which is about an hour something from the port. He says it's really beautiful. I love getting the inside scoop there. 4:06pm SGT Friday 03 June 2005 It's a wavy day today. Oh; I need to change my clock. 3:08pm ICT Friday 03 June 2005 And before we get to Sri Lanka in a couple days we will gain one hour. Weird; emacs got flubbed up when I changed the time. Now when it gets to the end of a line, it adds some text before the new line. ANYWAY, today it's wavy and I ran down to get my trunks to go jump in the pool but I was denied access. The guy was putting the net over the pool as the water was being drained. The water had been sloshing blastingly from side to side in rolling waves that crashed against each side of the pool and sprayed up and everywhere. I was told I could go into the kiddie pool or the jaccuzzi, and I was like, "pleeease; just for five minutes?" Then I heard a voice from (above-ish) in the life boat: "No." spoken not loudly, except just enough to be heard over the general splashiness and wind. It was the Captain. Haha; Homer Simpson's voice in my mind: Oh, I'm the captain, I get to choose if you swim or not. I don't want you to crash against the side of the pool and die. la la la. Fair enough; sour grapes; do it later. Get my own cruise ship. At the very least, I hope to see it again so I can take some video. permalinkPiano 3:04pm I haven't found a plug I can use, which kinda sucks, but I have found a piano I can listen to. 3:25pm ICT Friday 03 June 2005
I got two pictures of her from the back, and I went up to the front to see if I could get pics that way without bugging her but then I saw the old guys and thought it might bug them, so I chose not to take the pic. permalinkone big entry 3:36pm ICT Friday 03 June 2005 Don't have time to get into a new project; though I thought there was only 5 more minutes on this tape. Book fair at 3:45 and then study time at 4:30 and oh my god there is just so much to keep track of! Maybe after the 6pm GET Meeting I can transcribe this tape, get ready for lessons tomorrow and do laundry. 4:22pm Book sale is underway and I am fucking pumped at the number of books Kellie donated!! Took four people to carry them all. We are selling a chance for people to write their names in the books: 1000 yen and write their name and donate the book plus the money. 5:35pm I recorded part of Study Time today. Super low level students and a pretty high level student came in. 8:40pm
12:11am ICT Saturday 04 June 2005 Brandt went to sleep cause he didn't know we were having a meeting to get ready for our Sri Lanka student exchange program - teaching the Japanese students how to teach the Sri Lankans the steps to the dance. But now he is translating it for us. Audrey reminds me of Johnny Wolfe who is continually surfing on this continually changing to-do list that is written on pages and scraps and her hand with 500 meetings and different colors and cross outs. Her binder is so big it broke her purse strap, and she wore out her hand trying to sew through leather and fabric. Brandt's sign language version of boys and girls is grabbing the crotch and grabbing the breasts. This is for signing and singing Joy To The World To All The Boys And Girls Joy To The Fishes In The Deep Blue Sea Joy To You And Me. Super thanks to Audrey for helping us get the Student Exchange plan sorted. She is so so so busy! Man, we are so deleriously tired... It's 12:26am now and we've just finished for the night. Well, Brandt and I have finished, but Audrey is still kickin' it. 3:30am Just finished working on my class preparation for tomorrow. Bedtime now. Worked on curriculum and lesson plan for each class. Printed out pictures of my students as well. permalinkprev day next day |
