Classes

9:13am AST Monday 13 June 2005

I'm getting excited about Silent Football; not that it's coming up, but I was just reading about what I had written before on my site. Click on YRUU, then click on Silent Football, Foot Motions, Rules, and you'll see what I'm talking about. Enjoying YRUU and janette days in my mind.

I have six minutes before I gotta be in class. THREE teachers were late yesterday, so we are all being punished and have to be there 10 minutes early.

We get four days of vacation, but the rest of the days will be in ports.

11:31am

Just did the first class using Natalie's slideshow and "Imagine", and it went really really well. But there was no *singing* of "Imagine" as such. I'm pretty sure Koji would not be down with singing of any flavor.. He's not to the point he is so old that he'll wear a purple hat, but he is old enough that he doesn't want to try a bunch of new things. We had a good class.

4:13pm AST Monday 13 June 2005

This morning my first class was lovely; the Imagine song lesson by Natalie was great great great!

This afternoon my second class was quiet, and 66% of them were (a little bit) late. The Imagine song lesson was over their heads. I switched to talking about writing postcards and emails.

chat with

pm AST Monday 13 June 2005

The chat with Dr Waqar and Fadi was good. I recorded about 1 hour of it on video, but my battery conked out and there was not a working electrical outlet that I could find.

Only a bit of the discussion didn't get recorded.

Chatted with Katt and Kim; told them a bit about The Bead Lady skits that Fred, Peter, Katie and I would do. Rolled down to find someone with whom to study Japanese and remembered I have Chat With at 4:30. Holy shit I nearly forgot!!!!!!!

4:43pm AST Monday 13 June 2005

I just talked to Hiroshi, who says he likes American culture because Americans seem to think for themselves. Hiroshi's hairstyle reminds me of Koizumi's.

5:00pm

I just explained the plot of Pulp Fiction to the next student. That was a bit tricky, cause I was doing it after not having seen the movie in a long time, and doing it in chronological order, not movie order, plus I was having to tone down my English into simpler grammar and less colorful vocabulary.

5:44pm

I just talked to Kazumi for about 30 minutes. When she asked how old I was, she began to cry; her soon who would be my age died of Leukemia at age 16 or so. I held her hands across the table for a bit while stoically got her Japanese composure back. I gave her my email address. This was one moment I will always remember, and ensures I will remember Kazumi for a long time to come. She said she had come on PB looking for a new life, and I told her what seemed appropriate. She talked about life cycles 12 star signs and 5 cycles, so at age 60, she is back to the beginning of her cycle. She seemed really inspired at the end of our chat. I could only say "awesome," not "you're welcome," cause I didn't really do anything. I'm thankful to have been present while she found something for herself.

hitomi

5:53pm AST Monday 13 June 2005

Hitomi walked by and gave me Cadbury white chocolate. Oh my gosh it is huge and delicious. I'm guessing she bought it in Singapore. Ingredients: sugar, milk solids, cocoa butter, emulsifiers.. basically sugar and milk solids.

long showers

7:03pm AST Monday 13 June 2005

I've got the perfect costume for tonight's costume party thing!

HAhahaha Shawn and I were just arguing over who gets to go in the shower second. "No no; *you* go first." "No no; you go first.." Then Shawn, without laughing goes, "my indian name is 'long showers' .. you go first."

Oh my gosh Shawn is so funny!!!

messed up Iraq situation

8:38pm AST Monday 13 June 2005

Just had dinner with Rika and an Iraqi woman. The short version is that they are not safe walking around in their own city. The standing army (not Saddam's personal army) was relieved of duty when the Americans came in, so the security of Iraq was instantly jeapordized. The borders became insecure so anyone who hates the US could come in and fuck shit up. The number of US troops sent over was lower than some guy said we would need. Total chaos in Iraq now. How do we restore security? She said that's all the Iraqis want now - just to be able to walk around and feel safe.

How can I support the correction of this situation?

monkey costume!

12:26am AST Tuesday 14 June 2005

Awesome °û¤ß¤Û¤À¤¤ fundraiser costume party tonight! Most awesome was my costume which I found in the costume room: a blue long sleeve security guard shirt, red and yellow vertical striped baggy clown pants, and monkey ears!! Best monkey costume ever!

I totally loved being in character: I galloped around with a pitcher of beer to pour for people; I grabbed food off the trays and ate with my hands; I picked and ate lice from peoples' hair; I sniffed and snarfed around some of the other characters and generally just made a cute nuisance of myself. I decided I'd like to be a monkey at every costume party I attend.

Especially if I can climb on more things.

On the top deck, I did a *bit* of climbing; crouching on chairs and leaping off them, though I had to be careful because they move quite easily on the rough plastic surface.

Several people wanted to take pictures with me, and I was happy to do so. For several of the initial photos, I did huge toothy grin and squinty eyes, but later decided that it just made me look like I was in seething pain or really angry.

12:38am

Oops; getting tired. I was really surprised to be one of three costumes asked to compete in a fashion show.

I was super duper excited to win the contest!!!

I finished the white chocolate, and I just have two things to do for tomorrow. Okay, I can do it super fast.. go!

4:49am AST Tuesday 14 June 2005

I have slept, but I haven't slept in my room. I slept for a bit in GET Room 9 (my and Natalie's shared room). I've been working on a self evaluation for the students and on my Silent Football worksheet thing to hand out a simplified version of the rules and language necessary to those who come to the workshop.

I've scheduled myself for about 13 different dates over the next while to see if I can Silent Football myself out. I dunno if I will still love it or hate it at the end of all that.

5:23am

Going to bed now. Alarm is set for 7:55, so I can give Yuuka my jishukikaku (self-planned event (in my case, Silent Football)) date request.
