Busy busy busy

We switched to a new timezone last night. That was two in a row and there is one more tonight. We are switching so quickly that I'm totally losing track. They don't tell us what timezone we are in, only that we should switch our clocks forward or back an hour.

Last night I offered to print copies of the graduation certificates for everyone, and then Yuuka was like, "oh - don't worry about it, Carissa is going to mail merge them to get the students' names printed." So I aborted and then just chilled out, watched movies, and worked on my speech for today. It's actually quite a good thing that I got to work on that; otherwise I don't know if I would have been able to do it today.

This morning Audrey was all, "oh, Carissa is really busy, so she won't be able to do the certificates; can you print them?" and I was like "sure," but also wondering what was all the confusion about.

Turns out, behind the scenese Yuuka would rather have them printed so we won't have to worry about any teachers with bad handwriting.

I think this is the time the guy from the previous voyage was all, "don't take anything too seriously..." everyone is freaking out and running around worried that everything won't work right and blah blah blah, but I'm taking the advice and not taking anything too seriously.

The speeches have been good. Most of them are fine and some are so so. I am pretty nervous about mine. I plan to study mine during the break, but fuck we have a GET Meeting during that time.

Holy shit! The shy girl, Yuka, who asked me what I thought about her English and I was like, "you gotta stop being shy or you won't learn" and she cried and cried for 25 minutes..... she just did a speech. I am *so* proud of her and *so* impressed... It's *so* *great*!!!

Done!! Fuckin' relieved.

Hahahaha Dave is the timekeeper, and is supposed to ring a bell if people go over 3 minutes. That I've seen, he has only dinged the bell on Brandt's long-ass speech.

I went up on stage and was like, 「皆さん、こんばんは。」 (Good evening everyone), and he rang the bell for a good laugh and I pretended to be shut down and walked off stage. I laughed and gave him high 5 and ran back to the mic for my speech.

Stumbled all the shit through it and did the joke with Francois (implying huge rabbits were a danger to cowboys on the range), then FORGOT the line that includes my favorite word in Japanese: 右往左往 and then talked about Johnson Space Center in Houston and finished it to a chorus of cheers. (as did everyone, but it's still nice to hear it for my own speech)

Those lights are bright up there, dude.

Damn. Katt recorded into my tape that some guy liked my speech best, but, when trying to *listen* to what she said, I accidentally *recorded over* part of it. Fuck.

Today was the speech contest. I was really glad when I finished mine. Not that it was near the beginning of the day. I played with the audience a bit; played with my speech to make it more entertaining like I was just winging it, which Angie said she thought I was doing, which is good news for me. Greg said he liked it as well.

5:19pm JST Saturday 24 September 2005: I don't seem to have a copy of my speech on my computer, but I'm hoping/assuming I recorded it onto a CD.

Today was a long day and it's not quite over yet.

When I switched my keyboard to Dvorak layout (I'm typing this in qwerty now), I broke my C key so it won't stay on. (In qwerty, it's my rather important I key.)

But all of that is not why I'm writing. Tonight we switched to a new timezone.
