Entries this day: AM_dream Date_test Hula Nap Port_Orientation get_Nomikai tired AM dream 7:19am SGT Thursday 05 January 2006 I needed to get back to the top floor of the parking garage, so I got into a taxi that was just doing a slow circuit around the garage from top to bottom and around again. The driver was careful to get to know each of us; he pent some time sitting next to each passenger, carefully learning names and hometowns, etc. I was carrying Yuuka's bag instead of my own, though I don't remember why. We got under way, and the guy beside me, perhaps inspired by the taxi driver, started telling me that I was pretty good at voice percussion and singing the blues.. I was like, "thanks, but I'm not really all that good..." We arrived at the bottom of the garage, because the guy was on his downward driving, and I had plenty of time so I had just intended to ride all the way down and back up. But at the bottom he got a call saying basically he was needed for a job across town, and the customer was willing to pay 10 pounds to each passenger who was inconvenienced. I was thinking it would be a good way to make a bit of cash, so when the driver dropped us off in the restaurant at the bottom of the garage, I told the Maitre-D I had to split, and he said I could turn in my ten pound claim form by some date. I woke up while looking for a new taxi. permalinkDate test 9:51am SGT Thursday 05 January 2006 I was at breakie with Carla, Rei, and Yuki (the three roommates across the hall who we three roommates have invited to a date) and Rei was like, "so how did you write 'Your Majesty of the Infinite Blue Sea'??" I was like "how did I write it?" not denying having information about the author. She goes, "oh, I mean, how did the secret admirer write it?" I recognized I had almost given away a (pretendly secret) bit of information and stalled a bit so I could think. "Like what do you mean?" and then I interrupted before she could answer, as all three of them had made it to the table on the back deck behind Yacht Club, "all I know is: one of us likes one of you," They laughed, having heard the line before. "one of us likes two of you, and one of us likes all three of you lovely ladies." They laughed and then were joking like, "well, that's not fair that one of us gets more love than the others..." "Look what's come out of 3027; you're going to start a war in our room!" "There will be a big Japanese and Canadian flag blocking the middle of the room" "And an American flag burned in the corner..." We went on to a discussion of saying "United States" vs "America" vs other things and who associates what words with what meaning. permalinkHula 10:08am SGT Thursday 05 January 2006 Kellie joined our breakfast table, and after a bit, Matt came up and asked Kellie if she would do the hula as people joined the fruits party, and she was like, "alone? no way..." and quickly Rei was like, "I'll help," etc, and suddenly Yuki, Carla, Rei and I were Kellie's new hula team, and learning the steps to the hukilau dance! We got some haphazard audiences while practicing; two of the servers clapped and some people from the deck above Yacht Club watched as well. It really is pretty easy; I think it will be fun! permalinkNap 4:17pm SGT Thursday 05 January 2006 Worked a bit on my curriculum, felt out of sorts, read my book, felt out of sorts, wrote first-class-invites to my students, felt out of sorts, ate a snack, felt out of sorts, got my laundry done, felt out of sorts, and now I'm about to take a nap. I'm close to uncovering something hidden in my brain. 5:15pm For a while, I followed my breath in meditation, then fell asleep. permalinkPort Orientation 11:46pm SGT Thursday 05 January 2006 Joel said some really funny stuff at the port orientation, as he ususally does, cause he's basically hilarious all the time. The CCs had translated the Japanese port information sheet to English for us, but made a couple of spelling errors, for example, when referring to the tours it said please remember to bring your boucher Joel goes, "that's a joke. You should actually bring your voucher or else everyone will laugh at you." Later, when referring to the arrival time he goes, "the ship is scheduled to arrive at 11:30. You'll be made aware of it because we will stop moving." permalinkget Nomikai 11:55pm SGT Thursday 05 January 2006 The nomikai went well tonight. An animal theme (I was on the Okapi team) so we made animal noises, etc... Did a true-false game and Okapis and Giraffes (?) (Petra's team) tied with 12 points and both got the bonus question. Lotsa lotsa lotsa dancing, though I got pretty hot in my outfit: bandana thing from Petra Jordan (red and white checks) and white gown thing from Port Sayed Egypt. See ya later (actually Sayonara) party for Sachie, who will be leaving the voyage tomorrow. She's the student coordinator for the 53rd voyage!! They presented her with a cake and we sang and good stuff. I gave her a bit of a massage afterward while she was chillin' on the side of the room. After I was drenched from dancing, a girl came up to me and wanted a photograph together. Funnily, she didn't say anything, but just pointed at her camera. She showed me the resulting photo, and it was really flattering; I was looking right at the camera and she was smiling looking up at me. I don't know her name, but wonder if I can get a copy... permalinktired 12:21am SGT Friday 06 January 2006 I'm pretty tired, though I have not finished my Rob Update. It's all good, though. I can finish it in the morning, and then head out into Singapore port and get free internet access at McDonald's. I'm not sure if I will try to find a GPS, but I will look for a camera case for Hitomi's camera. Showertime now. 12:30am Actually, first, a to-do list for tonight and tomorrow:
1:29am SGT Friday 06 January 2006 I've finished up to pack above. Bedtime. permalink |
