Dream

7:12am ICT Tuesday 10 January 2006

Lisa was sitting in front of me and for some reason had to expose her right breast, because of a sunburn or some chafing, and I looked carefully into her eyes with a semi-joke like, "I'm carefully gazing into your eyes," and she laughed a bit, then I got on an air-phone (*), and looked up like I was no where near Lisa, and go, "hello, Lisa? Yeah, what are you wearing to dinner today? I want to make sure I don't stand out.." We laughed a lot..

Fantastic Rabbits

10:15am ICT Tuesday 10 January 2006

Had a fantastic class with Fantastic Rabbits today! Had two new students, Nikki and Angelina; I didn't coddle them much, but let the other students give examples of what I wanted: English name, country, profession, and then what topic they will teach and when.

Then I had them talk about why the joined GET, and then ways to accomplish those goals, which I knew would be "meet people and practice English." Gave them homework of freestyle talking to two people from different countries, plus one other person as a bonus, plus discover when/why PB started.

Then I was like, "you guys wanna do a class project?" and they were like yeah yeah and I had them brainstorm what they would do. Soon enough they had come up with people to play the characters of a classic Japanese play with a PB twist. Peach Boy on PB. Nice.

I was like, "do you want to plan it now?"

"Now?" As if I had something else planned.

"Yeah... this is freestyle teaching; I have very few plans. You guys are driving this class. I'm just the .. uh, security officer."

Planning Peach Boy took up the whole rest of the class and they will do more for homework, it seems. Next class (break tomorrow) we will probably start nailing down some lines with them doing the writing and me as the grammar cleanup crew.

I think all seven students will quit bouncing around the GET classes and stay with Fantastic Rabbits!

Japanese

For the first time I used "。。。タイフンじゃなくて、あの。。。" without thinking, this is too weird to say.

The whole phrase was when discussing weather with a guy up on Yacht Club. I wanted to say this is the rainy season, but I only knew the word typhoon.

「今日はタイフンじゃなくて、あの、雲(くも)は’タイフンがいいです か’と思います。」

I have no idea if that's comprehensible.

Lunch Rei

12:02pm ICT Tuesday 10 January 2006

Didn't have lunch with Rei, but happened to find her and Chieko up in Yacht Club after their CC meeting. Sat by Rei and chatted; she asked again for my birthdate, but I have only given her my days old. (I wonder what I'll say if she asks when I was 1 day old...) She has indicated that she's "bad at math," so I offered to help her figure out how many days old she is. There was not enough time / interest to do it now, but maybe later.

She showed me some kanji and reminded me of hers (玲) after I could remember half of it, and she taught me 午前 and 午後, which are representin' on the schedule.

Neat to see her cause Carl and I had just been commenting positively on Rei painting my toes last night, and I answered one of his questions like, "I ain't tryin' to get with her; she don' seem like the type for foolin' around." He agreed, "yeah; she's da real deal. Don't wanna be phonin' her on the ship."

Except he used a word that rhymed with phonin'.

I *did* have lunch alone, and then with Laura and other GETs who arrived later. We shared scar stories after I noticed Laura's finger was a bit crooked; her(?) dog bit and twisted it 180 degrees; she had to drive to the hospital with her fingernail facing the same direction as her palm.

Nick has dislocated two fingers, and I told them about my relocating Christine's finger after she did a back handspring when we were in gymnastics together at UH. Nick did his dislocation in Japan, and none of his mates on the field would fix it, and it took three doctors to get it back into place. After hearing that, I felt even better about how I had immediately fixed Christine's.

Now Fighting Goats

2:18pm ICT Tuesday 10 January 2006

Class was good, though they were pretty quiet. We did a bit of a lesson on shopping. It seems they want to be hand fed all their English. I think I need to be a bit more proactive with them than with my other class. Got a good thing going with both classes; I am thankful things continue to be great!

formal dinner problem

9:19pm ICT Tuesday 10 January 2006

Hmmm.. I'd like to do another triple date at the upcoming formal dinner with the girls across the hall, but

  1. The GETs and CCs have different seating times in the dining area

  2. It's only 2 days away, and I haven't talked with Carl and Dan.

But I did just write a note:

                Your Highness
                   of the
              Infinite Blue Sea,
              Infinite Blue Sky,
           Infinite Stars at Night

        Sweet Memories of our Encounter

          with visions of thy beauty
          my dreams gladly overflow

            Formal Dinner
                 Thursday
             January Twelfth

Will my heart burst with joy?

               Everlastingly,

mr and mrs smith

11:21pm LKT Tuesday 10 January 2006

This is 'supposed' to go in my blog, but I don't have access to it, and I'm not planning to write much.

Saw Mr and Mrs Smith, starring Brad Pitt (I think), and Angelina Jolie. Nice. I liked the scene where they first made up in the kitchen, and then the slow motion shooting after they were cornered in the shed in the shopping mall.

updated invite

12:01am LKT Wednesday 11 January 2006

Carl and Dan are home and Carl came up with a better genre of invitation ideas than a simple letter:

To the lovely 3029 crew:

After a thorough analysis of our first encounter, the 3 of us who
like 1, 2, and 3 of you, respectively, require the following
information for strategic planning purposes:

  1. Pick a number randomly from 1 to 1000.

  2. Add 5 for each one of you who would considering dating a GET teacher.

  3. Add 11 for each of those who are male.

  4. Add 29 for each who reside 3027.

  5. Subtract 100 if said individual is Francois.

  6. Multiply by 2 for each duplicated non-rabbit on your list.

  7. Add 3 if you like me.

Please write the resulting number on a piece of paper and deliver it to the Boys in Yo' Hood.

Given that your number is more than negative 6 billion, we have decided to ask you for another date.

We are definitely tired, and definitely having fun.
