Entries this day: Benkyo Day Hemingway_brownie_setup Lunch_with_Rei Open_lesson_plans card_for_Rei Benkyo 9:26am SAST Sunday 29 January 2006 Studied Japanese this morning by reading some of the first two articles in the daily paper. Hiromi, Akiko, and Keiko helped me. Mostly Hiromi and Keiko, because I hadn't met that Akiko yet. In their little clique are two Akikos; the other Akiko sewed Francois' leg and gave him a bath. permalinkDay 9:32am SAST Sunday 29 January 2006 I woke up this morning after a single sleep cycle and went up to eat breakfast in Yacht Club. I stayed there until they closed, hoping the 3029 girls would come up, but they never did. I wonder if they are still sleepin'. Today was supposed to be Walvis Bay day 1 of 2, but because we were late arriving in Cape Town, we left late, which has pushed this back; we'll arrive at 6am tomorrow and have just one day instead of two. Oh, so that means I have nothing written on my schedule today. I'm going to nap now for another sleep cycle, then probably do productive stuff:
Hemingway brownie setup 3:12pm SAST Sunday 29 January 2006 Good two hour nap, then upstairs to Hemingway to pay for a brownie to be consumed tomorrow night. I used some of the ideas in Dale Carnegie's book, and that seemed to help, though I can't say for sure... The bartender (Reyna) said it was impossible, but then after I apologized for even asking and causing trouble, asking her therefore not to do it, she came around to saying she would do it because she had never heard of such a request (pay now, eat later) before. I used Carl's card to pay for it, and paid him $10 cash. permalinkLunch with Rei 3:17pm SAST Sunday 29 January 2006 Chowed lunch with Rei and Keith (guest passenger for a day), subsequently joined by Yuki and Kentaro out in the delicious sun behind Yacht Club. Keith has worked with PB for 8 different visits to South Africa, but had never actually been on the ship. He wanted to get a sense of what life was like onboard, so he's checking it out for the two days we're traveling to Namibia. Rei and I watched the waves go by for a little over an hour, sharing conversation on theoretical silliness: "Would you want to be on a spaceship with 5000 people destined for another star, never to return to earth?" and "could there be a planet made entirely of water?" and then she shared a story about life in Japan before PB. Good times. permalinkOpen lesson plans 7:01pm SAST Sunday 29 January 2006 Yay! I've finished planning the first two open lessons that I have to do on 1 February. They should go pretty well - they're for the Super Beginner and Beginner Open lessons (which will probably feature about 30 students each), both with a topic of telling time. permalinkcard for Rei 1:46am SAST Monday 30 January 2006 I just spent a couple hours making a card, note and envelope for Rei's 10500th day, which is today. Good night. permalinkprev day next day |
