Noonish

2:21pm ART Thursday 16 February 2006

Woke up with a dream pretty vividly remembered, but didn't record it. Something about being somewhere or something. (wow)

Classes were like bang-bang-bang-bang finished. Fighting Goats at 8am were vaguely talkative, then 9:30am Fantastic Rabbits, while designing Peace Boy, were super talkative, but in Japanese, then 11:05am for Intermediate Open we used "How about ________-ing ..." to give suggestions, with りえ as CC (Rie who shaved us last night) and a contiuation of that grammar plus "... in the Sports Bar at 7pm?" for the Advanced level open.

りえ from 49th voyage said HI after the lesson and we went to Topaz for lunch and then took a walk on top deck until she had to go to port orientation for Ushuaia. I was gonna take a nap, but decided to get some more foodage, cause Yacht Club offered pizza for lunch today. Now it's naptime until CC りえ comes to meet me about the open lessons we'll be doing tomorrow.

Talk to Kentaro

4:42pm ART Thursday 16 February 2006

Just had a chat with Kentaro about relationship stuff rambling about my brain. He suggested taking a moment each day to see the sea. No easy answers to these entrenched life patterns. He said, "the pattern is stronger than you can imagine."

I was all stylin', sportin' my new Francois T-shirt and strolled into the GET Meeting 5 minutes early, and was surprised that everyone was already there, and Matt was looking at his watch as I walked in.

no way can I be late; my phone-clock is on time

"Port Orientation?"

"Oh. Oops!"

It had just finished.

Kentaro did a self-presentation today; I was inspired on two different points near the end.

One) we really are miracles. We are the sperm that won; we are part of fragile life on this rare planet, but still we feel concerned about all sorts of things that don't matter: jewelry, cars, consumption, TV, computers, etc etc etc. Taking a moment each day to feel our true essence may bring us closer to god.

Two) Our society is on the edge of change; we really have the ability to destroy ourselves or to have a major mindshift toward peace and sanity.

His second point triggered a small cascade of thoughts in my brain:

the sky is falling

I see technological changes happening around us every day. There are people who say the rate of changes is increasing (*).

(*) In short, things are changing quickly, and tomorrow they will change even faster than that.

One essay I read in particular pointed out that there have been major technological shifts that change the face of society, and these shifts have been happening on a predictably shorter time scale. Basically, (and I mean really basic):

  1. humans ran around chasing animals to live

  2. they invented agriculture and people stayed in stable communities

  3. people invented language and people began to record history

  4. someone harnessed metal and made weapons

  5. the steam / combustion engine create commerce

  6. airplanes brought the world together

  7. silicone allowed computers to keep track of numbers

  8. computers were merged into the internet

  9. multi-computer technologies are allowing us to play with DNA and stuff

  10. DNA and bio-enhanced technologies will sweep through our lives, changing all that we think is stable

What I predict: there will be no secrets. Tiny tiny cameras pointing every which direction, recording everything, pored over by computers or people with lots of time on their hands.... .. we won't be able to hide anything. Every transaction is recorded, all our personal data is recorded... I fully believe every single dollar bill (cold hard cash currency) will be individually tagged and traceable with remote reading technologies.

It will be possible, therefore, to get a device that can literally be carried through the streets that will tell who is carrying how much cash.

With face-recognition technology, we can be enhanced to "remember" everyone we meet. Our little earpiece or retinal implant will tell us who is coming toward us, when we last saw them, and any other pertinant information.

I'm getting tired and losing the original point to where this essay has become a useless blob of crap, but the punchline is that (I hope) there has got to be something human/spiritual/real that lives behind/beyond all this crazy computer stuff.

I think the key to keeping our realness is through connection with the divine / spirit / god available to all of us. Meditation, breathing, awareness are key to a stable life.
