Lisa's classes

7:04pm CLST Tuesday 28 February 2006

Lisa's classes were not the problem I thought they would be. I could even imagine teaching them again, and would actually prefer one of her classes over one of mine. (WTF is that about?)

One of her classes featured three students, who arrived on time, 3 minutes late, and 6 minutes late, respectively. I told them I felt bad for Lisa because it's so hard to have to start over a class for each new student who comes in. I asked them "do you like Lisa?" and they were like, "yes" so I suggested they come on time to class tomorrow. They all seemed interested in doing that. I wonder if she'll notice.

My classes

7:08pm CLST Tuesday 28 February 2006

Carl taught my classes today; I missed them! Both my Fantastic Rabbits and my Fighting Goats. Maybe we'll have a party tomorrow night in Ann's room, plus have class there tomorrow. I'll ask her if they have made such a plan. Turns out two of them slept over in her room last night after our party finished. Rumor has it they were up to 3am!

Carl was like, "holy shit!" when he rocked into Fantastic Rabbits with a plan and they were like, "booyah!" and told him what the hell was up, directing / creating Peach Boy play. I love my Fantastic Rabbits!

Poor orientation

7:00pm CLST Tuesday 28 February 2006

I was supposed to do the port orientation for Rapa Nui today, which I did, but don't think I did a particularly good job at it. I did better than last voyage, when I discovered I was supposed to do the port orientation NOW, had to run down to GET Street, print out the rough information and run back upstairs and fumble through not having read it and having plenty of repeated information; this time I was on time, had editted the document carefully, basically knew what it said, but I still didn't feel like I was one with the information; I didn't feel comfortable talking about it because I haven't been there yet; I just have this general idea....

*I* know what it is!! I don't prepare *anything* for the ports: my plan is always, "walk around, see what I find,"... so in that light, I've done a fantastic port orientation! Wow. Yay me!

- - - -

But the port orientation was dominated by a misdirected discussion about plastic obento boxes being used in Rapa Nui. Roberto, who successfully sued Costa Rica for supporting the US in Iraq, PBs newest staff member, was all like, "why do we have plastic containers?" in all sorts of concern for the environment, etc, all things with which I agree, BUT it's too late to do anything on this voyage; Japanese decisions are made centuries (*) in advance, and are hella slow to change. He'll need to bring his arguments back to Tokyo and make changes there. No way anything will substantially change on the voyage.

NOW, I grant that with my attitude nothing will change, and I best be thankful for people like him in the world.

However, at least, I have chosen not to use a plastic box lunch on Rapa Nui; I'll just happily starve for 8 whole hours until we get back to the ship. Or buy food on the island.

Title images

7:26pm CLST Tuesday 28 February 2006

I have drawn 7 title images that have not yet been used in the daily paper. I went and asked for two more blank sheets and Erika (*) was like, "we have many of your title images so we might not be able to use them all," and I was like, "oh!" and "then I won't do anymore," being careful to check my vibe: prefering I don't want to waste time / put you in a position of having to choose over fine, fuck you then; I won't do any more.

(*) one of my shy students, so I was really happy that she spoke up.

date with Hime

7:31pm CLST Tuesday 28 February 2006

I don't know if I'm going on a 2 person date with Hime, but I told her I would meet her for dinner; she said she was feeling bad and was considering leaving the voyage in Tahiti.

9:33pm CLST Tuesday 28 February 2006

Just got back from our dinner (where we sat across from two old men who complained quietly yet rudely about the food) and chillin' out on the front deck (where we determined my 13500th day will be 11 March 2007 (which didn't ring any bells though I've done the calculation N times already, so either it's wrong, or my bells are broken) and her 8500th day to be 2 May 2006) while the sun took its sweet time to set at 9:15 (though we didn't stay out that long).

Afterward, I walked Hime to the PA room 行かなきゃ! and found あかね nearby so I helped her with a couple vocabulary words ("inspirational" and "sum up") from the article she's reading.

I thought I had seen 左貴 on 7th floor, so I went back, aware that I was basically stalking when I need to be sleeping, but it wasn't her. Went down to Ann's room to see if she really wanted us to meet there for our class tomorrow, but she wasn't there, so we'll meet in our classroom and then move if inspired to do so.

I nearly checked 左貴's room on the way to mine, but somehow kept myself from checking; it seemed too creepy for me to show up there unannounced; we're not actually friends, and it would just be ooky.

rei chocolate

9:47pm CLST Tuesday 28 February 2006

In Namibia I bought some white chocolate to share with 玲ちゃん, and ended up overtly giving it to her a couple days ago. Today or so she said I should snag some, and just a bit ago I heard her come by her room so I took her up on that offer, getting 4 of the last 6 squares.

It was really nice chocolate.

I haven't really talked to her in probably a week, which equates to about a month in Tokyo time.

She said No Music No 52nd event has been cancelled, which furthers my resolve to just go to bed bed bed.

After a shower. I'll wake up early and do something interesting, perhaps. Especially since we're getting an hour tonight.

New time:

9:03pm CST Tuesday 28 February 2006

Wow. That took a while to get sorted. Timezones on this computer are not easy to set to Rapa Nui time.

state of my life

9:04pm CST Tuesday 28 February 2006

Given that it's just about a new month, and I have free time, I'll work on a

State of My Life Address

  1. I'm on PBs 52nd voyage around the world.

  2. We will be anchored outside Rapa Nui (Easter Island) in two days. We will get about 8 hours on the island. This will be my first time to Rapa Nui.

  3. We have 8 or so more days of GET classes, the speech contest, group project presentations, graduation and prom to go, and then we're Off The Boat!

  4. I haven't really kissed anyone on the ship.

  5. I recently got an email from Katt from the 49th voyage; she just wanted to say HI and see how the voyage was going. I hadn't heard from her in a while, after I said No and ever since she got off my Rob Update list, I thought I might not hear from her again, so I was glad she wrote.

  6. One of my trusted friends said she got a weird vibe from one of my romantic interests on the ship. Every time female friends have given me such warnings, they have turned out to be right. Well, both times.

  7. Rei and I haven't really talked in a while, save a bit of chocolate exchange, but we haven't spent any time together really.. definitely no dates, and I think it will stay that way. sigh. I still really think she's supa awesome.

  8. I don't have any pets.

  9. I'm still using my first Macintosh laptop: G4 Powerbook with 677MHz CPU and 512 Meg ram and 30 Gig HD. 14 inch screen that flickers at the bottom and I have to hit the side of the computer to get it to turn on. Touchpad mouse, non-touch-sensitive screen (I'm expecting touch-screens will be the norm "soon"), only rudimentary voice recognition (not good enough to use), no external mouse.

  10. My website is robnugen.com.

thunderrabbit at-mark gmail dot com is my email storage address, and anything at my domain is forwarded to that address.

  11. robnugen.com refreshes to my daily journal. The journal is indexable by about 8 different topics, including YRUU, dreams, ultimate, nihongo, sleepy, all, and maybe others. Also available on my site: my blog, travel entries (which are now updated automagically with my Rob Update Emailer), YRUU (primarily Silent Football), and writings (primarily old crap).

My journal and travel writings are updated regularly. All the others are collecting dust.

Images are not easily accessible from the top navigation, but there are pictures available, embedded in my journal, or if people hand enter robnugen.com/images

  12. My journal entries are archived daily and emailed to my gmail account. Each archive is about 4 megs. I think there are a lot of pictures included, back when I put images in the same directories as my journals.

  13. I haven't worked for money in nearly a year.

  14. Not sure what I'll do when I get back to Japan. I told Matt that I'm interested in doing the 54th voyage, and in an "I'll do whatever brown-nosing it takes to do that" way, I've said I am interested in doing the pre-departure GET classes, but I'd actually like to just ride TJ Bike to Kyoto, do the 10 day meditation, then do fuck-all and ride around the country, seeing if I can sustain myself off the generosity of strangers.

  15. Shit; I just realized I haven't given Matt my email to Natalie expressing my interest cited above.

  16. I haven't found (and don't expect to find) my 512Meg keychain USB card (which fell out of my Pooh Bear branded plastic case after not taping it back together in Buenos Aires).

  17. I'm still using my J-PHONE from when I first came to Japan in March 2003. I probably got it around 2 April 2003. I'm not sure if it will work once I get back to the country. (since there is no money in my bank account, but Vodafone still wants to be paid..)

  18. I didn't get much of an email from Hitomi in the last port.

  19. I still haven't spent any money on the ship.

  20. I'm wearing no jewelry; I have no piercings nor tattoos. I forgot to ask Hime about her tattoos; we got sidetracked with calculating our respective 500-day anniversaries.

  21. My computer gets too hot, especially when plugged in, so I have a fan that plugs into the USB port. I don't use the fan all the time, but when I do, it often sounds like the bearings are going bad in one of the fan spindles.

  22. I don't have a pilot's license, and basically no plans to get one, though sometimes I think it would be neat.

  23. I don't have a driver's license in Japan, and plan not to get one because I don't want to drive on the left.

  24. I do have a scuba diver's license. Mine.

  25. I am still looking for my next big project in life.

  26. I gots to go to bed.

  27. Sometimes I look back on my life and see janette as the best girlfriend I've ever had. I think I should go back to her and be settled. Then I think about Paige and wonder if she could be the one, 'cept for the detail that I don't really know her. Then I wonder if I'm just on the same pattern with no end in sight.

  28. I floss my teeth at least once or twice every day.

I brush my teeth at least 2 or 3 times every day.

I've been wearing my mouthguard every night since before I broke up with Wende (therefore since before September 2001)

  29. I haven't heard from Wende in a while, but I wrote to her on 24 Feb, for her birthday.

  30. I just brushed my teeth and noticed my chest hair is about 1 cm long, after being buzzed about 2 weeks ago.

  31. I've been using a USB phone charger that Jesse gave me before this trip.

  32. I've not taken any pictures recently.

  33. I forgot to bring Francois to the video team meeting at 3pm today; I told them I would at least bring him, but didn't know if I could attend. I guess I couldn't attend.
