I set my phone clock to 12:something last night when I should have set it to 00:something. I still woke up on time, thankfully, and noticed my error. Last night I left my computer up in the GET room that Lisa needs at 8am. Upstairs now to get it; I'm going to meditate in my room for 30 minutes now, then chow some breakfast.

I nearly fell asleep a couple times during my meditation, but I basically made it coherently through 35 minutes.

Breakfast with Hirame this morning; he's the cat who wears cool glasses and lives on 4th floor. He told me that Gifu (where he lives) is famous for mineral water, and the water on the ship is terrible compared to water back home, but he still has to drink it because it's too expensive to buy mineral water on the ship.

Environmental footprints

There's a man named Endo (or maybe it Ono) on the ship; his island is slowly being overtaken by rising ocean levels, so he's been talking to people about the environmental cost of plastics and waste. Everyone has been invited to bring one item that they brought on the ship but don't need anymore, tell why they needed it, and why they no longer need it. I don't know if it will be more than educational; perhaps a junk swap could be engineered from this.

I recognized something: Until now I had been using the same piece of dental floss for about a week or 2 weeks at a time before getting a new one. (I use Glide, which does not shred, and gets in between tightly packed teeth.) I had been embarassed about reusing dental floss just to save a fraction of a penny, but.... now I realize there's another good reason to reuse it. It's better for the earth.

Fighting Goats akane Fantastic Rabbits

Classes were pretty good today, and I'm glad that Matt came to Fantastic Rabbits instead of Fighting Goats; the Rabbits didn't get scared as I think Goats might have. But Rabbits kept on chattering and working on stuff, so it was alll good.

Between classes my Japanese lesson with Akane started in Yacht Club, but moved down to Topaz because she wanted the fish. She said her friends and her brother's friends crash over at her (parents) house all the time, and basically gave me an open invite to do the same. Wow!

She lives in Chiba, which is near Tokyo, and means something rude in the dialect spoken in Western China.

Today

Hmmmm... It's been a semi-productive day; I discovered the video team meeting in Yacht Club; I'm reallllly happy to see them taking this project as their own. The next step is to import the video onto some computer, but we've got some hardware difficulties: my disk has about 2 Gigs free, which I'm pretty sure is *not* enough to edit video and do a buncha crap like that. They have computers available, but not with the input port that came with my video camera. Hmm; perhaps Dan has the cable they would need for that. There are lots of video cameras on the ship; perhaps we should be asking some other passengers if we can hook it up on their devices.

English only session with Endoさん was basically a lot of beautiful photos from Tuvalu, a set of 9 islands that are slowly being swamped by the Pacific. The islands are super beautiful, accessible from Fiji for US$1000, and definitely a place one could find some quiet time.

Tonight

Tonight is the pub crawl from Sunshine Bar at 9pm (oops) to Hemmingway at 9:30, to Sports Bar at 10pm, then Sunshine Bar again at 10:30 to ??? listening to DJ Tony and someone else spin.

I don't *realllly* want to go, but Carla organized it, so I will definitely come for the first part. Except that part which I've already missed; shit.

The pub crawl was pretty well attended; I'm glad about that. I went to the sunshine bar, sports bar, and Hemmingway, but escaped from Hemmingway before that 30 minutes finished; went and hung out with Emi, wondering how many guys have fallen in love with her, then went to the newspaper table at 10:30 and filled in the numbers on Akane's title image, then drew about 4 小タイトルs.

I was unable to solve a 6 piece wooden burr puzzle that a guy solved. I got a bit of insight while working on it, but not enough to eureka.
