Dream

7:21am JST Thursday 13 April 2006 (day 13168)

Walking around, I saw Carl again, this time not wearing a Santa suit. He asked if he could stick his jacket into his bag that I had been carrying, saying that it had been a pain to carry it around all day. I was like, "dawg; this bag has been a heavier pain to carry around all day.." but the jacket wasn't all that much heavier, so I didn't mind. He asked if I was ready for that massage (he was supposed to hire a masseuse for me), and I was like, "not right now, dawg.. well, what time is it? If it's before like noon, and I'll have some time to enjoy it and shit, then let's hook it up." I joyfully recalled the story we had experienced when Carl came up and the guy I had been with ended up buying lunch for both of us. Hence, Carl owed me a massage from a professional.

Just as I got on a bus, I saw Kellie and a friend getting on as well. I gave her a flirtatious butt pinch or something, but she didn't really respond. As I was riding on the bus, I went to sit down in an empty seat, which happened to be next to Petra! She was just about to get up/off, but came back to sit down and chat, especially after I pointed out she had left her bag. She asked why I had been crying the last time she saw me, and I was like, "I was just sad about the 52nd voyage being over, and this time, no real chance for me to sail again. I'm not as good of a teacher as you or some of the others, and I'm just looking for a free trip around the world..."

She didn't disagree, and I looked over and saw we were sitting right next to a big bin of bulk chocolate pieces, which I presently scooped up into a big bowl and she poured the soft drink which had suddenly appeared, and then saw there was also orange drink, and poured her lemon-lime back into the bottle and poured some orange; it was to be a sugar-feast beyond recent memory. She was like, "this must be for people who don't know there's food in China Town."

Emacs

7:55am JST Thursday 13 April 2006 (day 13168)

With lots of free time, but limited internet, I have spent a lot of time playing with emacs, and some of its games. I read dunnet.el to see how to play the dungeon game (M-x dunnet); I had figured out the bear, and how to start and login to the computer, but I gotten stuck at the computer, and would never have guessed to rlogin / ftp to various hosts to get past it. I got bored once I got to the bedroom and urinal; I dunno if I'll dunnet again, now that I've done it for so long, but still couldn't do it.

I've played with M-x zone, M-x tetris, M-x snake, M-x life (though I can't figure out a way to place my own @), and others.

Farm

2:44pm JST Thursday 13 April 2006 (day 13168)

Did some actual hard work at the farm today: turned over a compost pile, or basically folded it in half. The tricky part: lots of vines and long sticks in it made shoveling quite a pain. Try to scoop, but end up trying to lift an impossibly large section of dirt and compost and muck.

But, on the good side, I found some HUGE grubs (eeewwwwww!!) that Masako said were worth 100 yen each on the grub market. Got some pics that I hope to put on here someday....

Shrine

8:15pm JST Thursday 13 April 2006 (day 13168)

There was some event today, perhaps featuring a parade/ceremony that happens once every 20 years. A sign read in part:

There is a rite which is called Shikinensengu that involves all the shrines
within the Ise Grand Shrines being razed and then reconstructed on the
designate [sic] site next to the present location every 20 years. This
traditional event has been continued for about the last 1,300 years.

Today we saw a rather large crowd of people pulling a few wooden carts as shown in the photo on the sign, so perhaps this was part of the once-in-20-years event!

couch surfing

11:08pm JST Thursday 13 April 2006 (day 13168)

Today I emailed a woman who has offered her couch in Kyoto on couchsurfing.com. She's the first person I've asked via this website. Looking at the map, I see that Richard lives vaguely close to the meditation center as well. I don't know exactly where this woman lives, nor Richard, but if I have the choice, I'll prolly choose the one that's closer, with a heavy lean toward Richard.
