Entries this day: Dream MacBook Plans Work_at_E-V booyah_new_MacBook!! Dream 10:37am JST Thursday 20 July 2006 Wende and her friend Cameron (as in Diaz) had had a falling out and were trying to get reconnected via cell phone, but Wende was sure Cameron should be inside, but Cameron was outside on a dock near a university. She was wearing a black and white petticoat thing and I went down to help Wende locate her friend. Wende was quite upset and couldn't understand where Cameron was, but I could hear her voice through the air instead of the cellphone and was like, "Wende, she's right over there," and Cameron saw me point, then smiled her dazzling smile and jumped off the dock to come wade over to Wende's side of the water. I went down to help her climb up the ladder. - - - - On a train, watching it plow over people who were chillin' on the tracks; we couldn't even feel us hitting them, and definitely didn't stop. permalinkMacBook 5:57pm JST Thursday 20 July 2006 Sweet. My (credit card company's) new MacBook arrived today. Francois and I took a lot of pictures while opening the box. During the day I've been configuring the machine and downloading the software I want: Firefox (invited myself to get into the version 2 source code), Flock, Skype, Adium, Google Earth, and last, Emacs. Found a site that has weekly builds of emacs for OS X. porkrind.org, I think. I downloaded the most recent one and installed. Coolio, BUT, like on Hitomi's machine, all the source code is owned by root, so I don't have access to configure it (I haven't yet set up a root user on the machine). The porkrind guy gets the build from CVS; I imagine if I do that from within my account, it will be installed and owned by me. But I have little or no clue how to download from CVS. Though I do know what it is. permalinkPlans 10:33pm JST Thursday 20 July 2006 Plan to meet Miki in Yokohama tomorrow to go say Bye to Carla (and Natalie and Tony) and PB gang... In a way I feel weird / sad / whiney for not being selected. Computer party with Hitomi scheduled for Saturday. permalinkWork at E V 6:04pm JST Thursday 20 July 2006 Sweet. Got a call from E-V; they would like me to work again tonight, starting at 7, and probably till 10. 6:47pm JST Thursday 20 July 2006 Snap. Got here a bit later than expected, but still on time. Yuko is funny; she's staffing the desk; offered me a cookie and then gave me the desiccant, saying "this one is best." - - - - Hahahahahaa! I'm doing a level check today! 7:00 Rinako was pretty darn high level, though she missed S on plurals and he/she verbs. I could easily chat with her for a while. 7:20 Teruo asked about my political affiliation and when/why I came to Japan. 8:00 Masayuki... I don't really remember. 8:40 Nobuhiro... I don't really remember. 9:20 Shuuji is a percussionist; he asked some detailed questions about how to use "by" and "until" 10:38pm More funniness from Yuka as we talked about her having come to meet me at the station; I was like, "next time, I will remember how to get here." "Oh, it's actually good; it gives me a chance to get out of this prison." "Alright, then I'll call you from the station." "And I'll say; 'it's your second time; can't you get here???'" - - - - Sarcasm is rare in Japanese; I wonder where she learned it. permalinkbooyah new MacBook!! 12:05am JST Friday 21 July 2006 New MacBook *and* new wireless keyboard. Using the keyboard now. Almost don't care that I can't edit the sgml.el file. It appears I will be needing a wireless mouse; or at least a corded mouse. My fingers are not 100% back on track with this keyboard; the ctrl key is down in the bottom left; I keep hitting CAPS LOCK instead of CONTRL. Can't stay up all night; I gots to be up early to meet Miki; but just let it be recorded that I am quite happy with my new machine. And I haven't even loaded all the stuff I want for it yet. permalinkprev day next day |
