Entries this day: Good_power_management Not_so_good_heat_management PM_dream Procrastination Wedding_bells!! ZZZZ.youos.com Good power management 7:28am JST Monday 24 July 2006 Last night I left my computer running with USB cooling fan running as well. I forgot, however to plug in the computer. (plugged thw power supply into the wall, but didn't plug the other end into the computer...) This morning, I noted the machine completely off and realized my mistake. Plugged it in, had to hit the power button to turn it on. and was surprised that it didn't start from 0; it had saved everything, including the final image of the screen saver! Everything was saved, though the battery was deadder than a doornail, as we used to say. So dead, in fact, that it hasn't flipped from 0 to 1% charge. I hope I haven't fucked up the battery by running it completely out. That would suck; batteries are not covered under Applecare warranty. 7:35am JST Ah. Just now 1%. permalinkNot so good heat management 7:55am JST Monday 24 July 2006 I bought a four fan heat dissipater, but it seems to suck. And not in a good fan sucking way. Stupidly I threw away the box yesterday, which I imagine will severely reduce my chances of returning it. permalinkPM dream 12:26pm JST Monday 24 July 2006 I was working on a project, but was asking Fred if he could put together a conference for it. I didn't want to do that part of the work, so I called him in to do it. I came up with an idea for boosting attendance, "who do you know in the academic community who would benefit from this?" and perhaps if we inivited peoples' friends, they would want to come as well. Fred seemed well-impressed with that bit of logic. I thought it was pretty cool myself. permalinkProcrastination 11:53pm JST Monday 24 July 2006 There are lots of good ways to pracrastinate online. I just found 43things.com, which quickly snarfed 2 hours of time. I'll count the site as another "good idea" that I hope is making someone a shload of money. Or at least a decent start. Oh, and I also found youos.com, which I guess gets its name from youtube.com. youos seems pretty.... wow. Like an impossible idea come to life, except it seems really slow and pretty buggy. They just got slashdotted, which could account for the slowness. I hope the bugginess is worked out soon enough. I basically couldn't get anything to work, except just a tiny bit. Like in the shell I could type "help" and "ls" but neither ls nor cd worked (help did), and I tried to load my site in their bitty browswer, but that didn't seem to work, unless I actually went to bitty browser's URL instead of youos. The chat seemed to work, though I didn't add to the clutter of messages. I gots to go to bed so I can go to the hospital tomorrow for what should be my last check up. Oh shit; I just realized I don't have any money to pay them for X-rays. Dammit. Oh wait. I do. I've got 15,000 yen saved for rent. Sigh. I will get out of debt. permalinkWedding bells!! 12:45am JST Tuesday 25 July 2006 And now, a secret revealed: I am getting married! (*) Introducing the torrid love affair between me and Tatyana. She's super babelicious, and super loves me; I can hardly wait to meet her!!! (*) jk permalinkZZZZ.youos.com 1:56am JST Tuesday 25 July 2006 Holy cow! my
first journal entry on youos.com (no) Just for archival, 2am 25 July 2006 I am typing this in the RichTextEditor in youos, an OS within my browser, within my desktop on my computer. wtf? I think this is a pretty cool thing, and, contrary to what I reported earlier today, it seems to be working pretty well. BUT, even moreso than I reported earlier, I HAVE TO GO TO BED!! permalink prev day next day |
