Dream

10:02am JST Tuesday 8 August 2006

Kissed Shalini from PB49. I felt quite nervous and quite certain it was her first time to kiss anyone. I wondered if I would have to marry her, or at least be committed to dating her for a while.

11:04am JST Tuesday 8 August 2006

In a train station and the station attendat asked if I had ever umped over th gates in order to see what tme the tran would be coming. I was like, "of course not, because the times are indicated outside the gate area as well.

A bus arrived and he used his foot (wearing multi-colored toe-socks) to help the driver lower the window, which was apparently stuck. I got into the passenger seat where a cute woman was seated. I started to play with her short red hair. She had a septum piercing; it was rather small and almost not visible outside her nostrils. The first thing she said was she was excited to go visit a certain bar; she backed up her claim by stating she was a wild girl and could be rather annoying..

I was like, "welp, I guess I won't be going with you." but I kept playing with her hair until I realized I should stop. I explained that annoying is okay, but wild is not. I claimed my ex-fiance was annoying, but only in a cute and predictable way. Not wild.

(For the record, I don't think Wende was annoying.)

Map smurfer

I'm writing some code to let me create a line on a google map.. soon (?) I will have a map of my TJ Bike adventure available. Nothing to show just yet, but feel free to toy with this google maps code that draws a line and prints coords, the base code for which I got from Chris Haas' map at Ovation Marketing.

My code is a bit cleaned up:

slight tweaks to your MapMaker.asp code

HI Chris

I grabbed your code from http://www.ovationmarketing.com/GMaps/MapMaker.asp and made a couple of
tweaks to it. I updated it to use v2 of google maps API, and added an "oops" function, to remove
the most recently added point from the list.

The result is currently online at http://robnugen.com/maps/mappointer.html I've included it below as
well, because I am still working on it and may break it soon.

The link mentioned above is not (yet) for public consumption, so please don't post it.

    Thanks
     - Rob

The code has a bug: the oops can remove all but the last point. Trying to remove that last point breaks the script, which will have to be reloaded. Not much data will be lost, though, so it's a low priority fix. Anyone who does fix it, feel free to email the fix to amazing_code_fix at my domain.

NB: the link above is okay now.

Does NB stand for No Brainer??? Certainly not, but it sure fits.

Skype in

4:38pm JST Tuesday 8 August 2006

Hopefully I will be able to use Jesse's Skype account tonight so Kim can call me using Jesse's Skypein number. Jesse seems to have forgotten to change the password to something just for me, and may not have time to change it before the call is scheduled for tonight.

Hopefully I will be able to walk Kim through an installation of skype; he's not as much of a computer nerd as me, so he doesn't have skype already.

Spam

11:24am JST Tuesday 8 August 2006

I get a lot of spam. Well, not a lot lot lot, but maybe 50 per day. (haven't tested this recently). Some spam gets through to my inbox, usually by having a bunch of random words in it.

Just thinking that it would be way more effective for spambots to read the top page or two of the domain of the intended recipient (or in the case of hotmail, yahoo or other portal/web-based addresses, read the pages of text from where the address was gleaned), quote parts of the text from that scan, and send it along with the spam URL to the email address. That way the spam will likely be natural language, the recipient will likely be attracted to things relating to the recipient's interest, etc.

I hearby patent this idea as of 8 August 2006.

Work in Shibuya

4:36pm JST Tuesday 8 August 2006

Working in Shibuya today. Supposed to start at 5:20pm. I will tell Reiko today that I'm willing to pay the 10,000 yen visa sponsorship fee if that will help them sponsor my visa.

(( Apparently there was no suicide upon the train that just passed so, so I should make it to work with no worries. No motorcycle zoomin' for me today. ))

4:46pm JST Tuesday 8 August 2006

Cripes. The train stopped one station short of Shibuya. Station attendants are running around looking at the other track.

Okay; moving now.

10:29pm JST Tuesday 8 August 2006

Work was good: 4 hours of straight lessons. The most interesting was a mom and daughter pair, where the daughter, though 26 years old, was amazingly shy. She kept looking to her mother for .. something more basic than what to say, because she wasn't saying anything. I found out she likes to draw so I had her draw a rabbit and write down its favorites, and then had her read those things and then fill in the blanks with her own favorites. That was at the very end of the lesson. When Reiko asked, the mom said it was すごく楽しかった, which is quite good.

I also called Tokudasan to see if I can get full time work there. He said he'll call me tomorrow. Reiko is really surprised he hasn't given me a straight answer.
