I was well awake through the whole beginning and only near the end did I not hear every inch of his descriptions. I found myself in an interesting dream: In the safari in Kenya, I rode secretly away from the ticket gates toward the exit of the park. Just as the truck slowed down to go through the elephant grid, I jumped off the back onto the dusty road. After glancing back at the truck to make sure they were not concerned for me, I started walking back toward the ticket gate, and saw an elephant up on a ridge overlooking the dusty road. I found that I was floating more than walking, and realized this was a semi-real experience. I remained relaxed and knew I was on my back in my apartment. I noted my hands were floating above my physical hands. I remained relaxed and observant, then fell asleep as Monroe (narrator for these CDs) started to talk about being equalized when we return to Focus 1 (awake). permalinkInteresting? thoughts 1:49pm JST Tuesday 5 September 2006 (day 13313) On the train thinking about the meaning of life. It seems I want to have a focus, a goal, a reason for living. (I posit that everyone wants a reason to live (once their basic needs are met).) I can continue to walk around Tokyo and say, "there's no reason for me to be here..." and move to the next city and say the same thing. Eventually go to every city and believe there is no reason to be anywhere, and therefore no reason to live. So, it's not something external that gives me reason to live. Or I can see reasons to be here, and do them, but not be fulfilled by them. What is fulfilling? I came knowing that my first student wasn't scheduled until 6pm, hoping that someone may call and request a lesson during the day. That didn't happen, but I did get a nice phat nap, using Francois as a pillow. And Reiko helped me (*) get tickets to Korea. 32,670 including tax. She looked for prices and gave me the number of a different company that turned out to have this even better price available. I used the fax machine here to receive the confirmation. Tooth brushing time now. 10:54pm JST Reiko called Tokudasan to confirm it was okay for me to get an advance of 40,000 yen to pay for my flight to Korea. Got it. Totally cool; I'm going to hook up another stamp in (the new pages of) my passport, and see Dru Daddy G, and see a new country, and be able to tell people I've been to Korea. On time, basically clean, blah blah. BUT, some stations are big and train lines can be a nightmare to find. Tonight I was blessed with an opportunity to lead two travelers from the pits of Shibuya's Hanzomon line across the street and up to the Ginza line. I specifically brought them out onto the street cause I wasn't sure I could get to Ginza line from Hanzomon line directly (I know it's possible, but I didn't want to get lost in my moment of leadership). The couple was from Italy, but I couldn't remember more than "mumbriana" which might mean "ghost" and has the distinctly memorable feature of rhyming with the name of the tall beautiful Italian named Juliana, as in "Juliana mumbriana" but I don't totally remember. Anyway, I didn't think that would be a very useful topic for discussion, so I just said "Tokyo es dificil" hoping bad Spanish could pass for worse Italian. Not sure if it worked, but they were happy once we arrived at Ginza line. permalinktomorrow Japanese 11:43pm JST Tuesday 5 September 2006 (day 13313) Tomorrow I'll have my first "official" Japanese lesson in a while. I've wondered a bit about how to get back into the practice.. I've got a shload of study materials, all of which are "in progress" and a lot of which I wish to transcribe onto my site, both to practice and to record my progress.. I don't really want to start over with a while new technique, nor go through all the crap from before to cull the stuff I know, etc etc etc blah. One "big" issue is not having a printer at home; I would like to type a lot (I can type hella faster than I can write, plus it only makes sense that I type in Japanese because that's what I do in English, even though there's certainly the argument that I'm not learning kanji as well when I type as when I write. Perhaps I can work out a deal of having my teacher print stuff that I send her for checking in our lesson. We're meeting near my station; she lives in the same neighborhood. I want a teacher as supportive and genki as I think *I* am in class teaching English. And no resorting to English unless absolutely necessary. permalinkprev day next day |
