Daily Show Dream

4:38am JST Saturday 14 October 2006 (day 13352)

In a grocery store with my brother; I knew the cashier as Jon Stewart was checking out. He put down two bills, a 100 dollar bill and a 500 dollar bill. I knew the cashier, so I was like, "can I see the 500?" because I had never seen one before. As I was looking at the bill, I asked Jon what would be a funny word for fake money, and he was like, "Error Mail" but I was like, "no, no, there's something funnier.." but neither of us could come up with it.

Darn long earthquake

Awesome earthquake shook for about 10 or 15 seconds. It woke me up; I really enjoyed its duration.

Dream

7:57am JST Saturday 14 October 2006 (day 13352)

Living on the edge of a wall next to a river, our house could be moved up and down the river, like driving a car. There were passengers up front and Fred and I lived in the back. One day our house-car nearly fell into the river; we felt it coming and the driver tried valiantly to keep us from falling into the river; he was successful, and we ditched onto the ground outside the river wall. I was last to get out of the van/car because I had to look for my shoes, so I didn't see where they had gone. I went into a likely house and asked, but they didn't understand English, but Japanese or Spanish was okay, so in Japanese I told the woman what happened, but she misunderstood that I was trying to get free housing, so I was like I just want to find my friends, so I went back outside, and I found them on the street; all except for Fred, and as I was walking over to them, some boys on a camper on the street started making fun of me for wearing pink swim trunks.

I ran over to them and bounded up onto the trailer with them, and took their cameras and took a couple of pictures of random things as I was like, "hey kids, so you think it's pretty funny that I have pink swim trunks? well I would love to be cool like you and have cool black swim trunks and a darth vader T-shirt, and all this, but today my house fell into the river. Sometimes God finds it necessary to take things back like 'that's enough of that'" and their leader had apparently heard the story already, so he believed it could likely be true.

I was invited to watch their dance, during which one guy offered to sell me some drugs, and he ended up missing his cue, and got yelled at by the leader, not for missing his cue, and not for trying to sell me drugs, but for lying about the quality of his drugs, and the price; he was made to apologize and tell me they were available from the convenience store down the street.

I went back outside as I quietly ducked out of the group between the video cameras who were filming; I chose not to be all crazy on film and shook the leader's hand as I got downstairs. I was surprised at how hairy his hand was, like a wolfman.

I didn't find Fred, but then woke up.

I've had Japanese-dreams each time I've listened to Japanese as I fell asleep.

Faster

9:36am JST Saturday 14 October 2006 (day 13352)

A bit peeved that I missed the train to Shibuya by like 30 seconds. It was "random" though, I didn't consciously know what time the train was scheduled to leave; I hadn't looked it up before arriving at the station.

On the platform, I noticed the clumps of people standing where the doors would soon arrive on the upcoming train. Noticed 1 person with me, though all other clumps that I could see had 3 or 4 people. Interesting. I assume it's a form of racism, which I've encountered many times in Japan.

As the train arrived, the crowds inside reminded me I could optimize my exit strategy in Shibuya by getting on at the next door, then coming over to my door at the next station and get on last; this would arrange things so I would get off first in Shibuya. Decided not to do it, just to deal with the consequences in Shibs as they may occur.

I was third off the train behind two tied for first place, but first to the top of the stairs, zipping through the gaps of slow people. Shibuya was pretty crowded; I was necessarily slowed down by the mid-sized crowds crowding the gates and ticket machine area.

9:44am JST Saturday 14 October 2006 (day 13352)

Now chillin' on the train in Shibuya about to head to Kichijoji.

Forgot headphones

9:58am JST Saturday 14 October 2006 (day 13352)

Last Saturday, my computer was in the middle of uploading my local user directory to my web server, so I didn't bring it to work.

Ironically, Yuria, a student who I've helped a few times by editing on computer, brought a CD so that I could help edit a document. Instead, we ended up working with an old fashioned stack of paper bound together into a "book". I invited her to send me the doc via email because last time she sent a document as a spreadsheet with each line in a different cell. It had been quite annoying to edit, so I hope she understood my suggestion that she use a text editor instead of a spreadsheet. (To ease communication, I named M$ brand names, but won't name them here)

Today, I have my computer (to watch Daily Show vids), but I forgot my headphones, so I may choose not to watch.

Work

4:50pm JST Saturday 14 October 2006 (day 13352)

I've had plenty of breaks at work today. 180 minutes total, so I'm only working 5 hours. Last lesson goes till 6:20, so I'll have to book it back to the station to get to Shibs on time.

A pair of students I griped at last week for not doing homework did homework this time. The other pair of students I griped at last week starts their lesson in 1 minute.

9:10pm JST

They hadn't done any homework, but I believe they will next time. Explaining why became the topic in my lesson with Shinpei tonight.
