Met with Tariq, Michael, Hitoshi today. The latter two were late, so I got to interview Tariq some. I see him as pretty successful, so I want to know what drives him, etc.

Train missed photo op

D'oh.

I saw an interesting thing: the express train passing two workers in the tunnel, with the tunnel lights turned on. Just after the fact, I decided it would have been a cool photo. So cool, in fact, that I decided to (skip the presently waiting local train, and) stay an extra 15 minutes until the next express went by.

Unfortunately (after the local train left), the workers turned off the lights and exited the tunnel.

Damn.

But.

now I know where the light switches are in the tunnel.

Hmmm!

Work

Finished work; last lesson was with the lovely loud Akiko, whose English is pretty darn great. She listened compassionately to my story of getting in trouble yesterday, and then my story of Aiko and how I'd like to get to know her more, but then mostly I talked about my experience in Jerusalem, about how great and terrible it was; the Palestinians so beautiful, the soldiers and settlers so horrible (as a hugely crude estimation). Told her about Damascus gate bustling with commerce and the funny guy at the bread shop helping me learn to count and tossing worthless money over his shoulder; about Bethlehem strangled by checkpoints, and my bold dumb attempt to damn the damn system by jumping the gates. It didn't work for long.

Our lesson ended, and Reiko informed me that my next lesson had been cancelled, so Akiko and I went back to chatting for about 20 more minutes; this time *she* got to talk, telling me about her nephew's acceptance into university, and how (now that he might just slack the rest of his senior year), he might start coming to language school to get hooked up with some English speakin' skizzles.

No pics here, but just a whine:

Yesterday, after having gotten into trouble about sexually harassing a student by touching her hands (probably saying, "you can do it" or "oh, I'm sorry to hear that,") I was quite proudly focused on *not* scoping women with covert glances at variously accentuated lines and curves.

A girl just walked by and I could feel me going back to my old scoping self. Her hair was all crazy tall and blondish and her eyes super made up. Maybe it's okay to stare at freaks, but basically I thought she was hot. In a freaky way.
