Dream

9:48am JST Wednesday 13 December 2006 (day 13412)

model airplane wings being attached with rubber bands; the guy was showing me how to do it, thought he was not able to do it himself, but he knew the theory. Rub the rubber band on the finger a bit to get some oil on it, twist it around the finger like this, and then stretch and rotate and hook it on the other peg.

I tried the technique, but was also having some trouble; I forgot to lubricate the rubber band and it broke; I dropped the wings, which got a bit scuffed. My guy tsked a little bit, but knew it couldn't be helped, plus they would get a lot more damage when actually being used.

He asked me what had happened. When I told him the rubber band broke, he said I should ask for a replacement one from the store, where we happened to be arriving. I hadn't thought of that.

12:22pm JST Wednesday 13 December 2006 (day 13412)

Tariq came over to our apartment for our online meeting because he had left his computer here for surgery by Dr Michael. Surgery was unsuccessful, but didn't make the machine worse than it had been.

The meeting was successful; I was glad to be able to show a bit more of the Flash cartoon that I had worked on last night. I felt a bit bad that I hadn't gotten more done, but Tariq seemed fine, and it seems I did more than others.. Hmm

Nice. I got a blanket for Steve to use, got the transformer thing Petra requested, and got my teiki updated for use until 18 January 2007, all in one zoomy trip to Shibooooya

Looked for the book Kim suggested, but the guy at Book First wouldn't try to look up a book for me! Don't they have an inventory? Don't they want to sell books? I was anti-impressed, and bitched louder than necessarily called for, but, I mean, there's a computer right there. WTF is wrong with their system that they can't look up a book??

</rant>

The transformer is way smaller than I guessed from the picture. This model (60W) is a step up from the one Petra requested: 50W.

Work

11:03pm JST Wednesday 13 December 2006 (day 13412)

Best things today:

A student who reallllly liked the marble track, and was happy to grab multiple marbles and send them down in succession. She was super smiley and I was nearly afraid to beam smiles back at the same rate; but, overcome by the glow, I happily showed her the switch and even plans for the next portion. I *almost* asked her what she thought should come next, but I decided to wait until I was sure she would visit again to see the results.

A student who loved the idea of counting days old. She's 24, so I foolishly pegged her for 8000 days old, when it's obviously 9000 days. She's actually 9049 days old today, and in about 15 seconds, I was able to calculate her 10,000th day in my head.

I checked it on computer, and she was well impressed, until I told her the secret: her birth date is 20 days before mine; I remember when my 10,000th day was, so I just subtracted 20 to come up with hers.

Today featured 5 hours straight teaching with every student on time for class.

Tomorrow there is an 80 minute break just before my 80 minute lesson with Akiko. I look forward to using that time to work on the marble track.
