Entries this day: Samsung_707SC_Mac Ultimate draft_king karaoke train Samsung 707SC Mac 11:46am JST Sunday 29 April 2007 (day 13549) I just got a Samsung 707SC, and I basically can't use it in conjunction with my Mac. Maybe it would have been a good idea to do more research before just signing a 2 year contract with them, but ah well. I've done dumber things. Basically the phone is okay, but it has some silly quirks. I can save contact data to the phone or to the USIM card, but when I search for said data, I have to tell it which to search. It should just grab the data from both sources and display it in one list! I can transfer addressbook data from (Address Book on) my Mac to the phone, but I can't save contact data from the phone to my computer. Why? Maybe there is some tweak I haven't tweaked yet, but so far, I can't figure it out. I transferred a .swf file to my computer from the phone. It worked fine, and I was all excited to create a killa .swf for my phone, but I can't transfer .swfs to the phone. Barf. This is dumb. So the phone is slim, and has a pretty high res camera, can surf the web (though I can't set my preferred home page), and read gmail, (but not download gmail's mobile app), but only 3 thumbs up out of 5. permalinkUltimate 12:35am JST Monday 30 April 2007 (day 13550) Great time with the ultimate kids today. I wasn't at my Wonderboy best, but I did have a couple of great catches. One in particular was on a full run to catch a high throw going out the back and just before I crossed the line, I like stopped up on tip toes and caught the disc. People in the sidelines cheered. I reminded myself of Jolyon, who's basically the best player in our group. I made a good block on one of Jolyon's discs; it was a high speedy throw. Not sure how I did it. Three times I threw a difficult throw with the wind that I wanted to arc off the field and come back for an endzone point. It failed twice today, but worked on the third time. (Or was it the fourth?) British Mike seemed to be in a bit of a bad mood as we were playing like crap at some points. I didn't always make the best throws in the world, nor get into the stack on offense, but hey, no point in yelling. I felt bad enough on myself after throwing crappily. I really noticed the impact of his words on my little brain. Had to take note of what was happening and shrug it off. During chill time on the sidelines, Brady told a farm animal joke, so I told Ed The Tree Planter joke and Moe and Joe. Brady tried to tell the well-known bear and rabbit joke, but we all knew it. Then he told a ridiculous joke about a polite sex-crazed deer. It didn't go over well, but I could imagine, well told, it would be a riot. Tamau asked me about Francois (Why do you carry a rabbit? and Are you serious?), and I told her the story, including Kim Sawyer pointing out that honoring all parts of myself makes me a more complete human. And that Francois is in San Francisco now. As the sun considered setting, someone was like, "game to five?!?" and someone else like, "game to seven?!?" and I was like, "five games to seven?" as a complete joke, but that's what we did! (Un)fortunately, they went quickly, cause the other team totally destroyed us, getting 9 (nine) points in a row and basically shut us down. We just kept throwing the disc away and they kept getting point after point. It was tough, but fun. permalinkdraft king 12:55am JST Monday 30 April 2007 (day 13550) Chatted with Peta after the game and while we were walking back. She's got several interesting piercings, including a ring on the front center of her upper lip that hangs down against her teeth, and a bar through the nape of her neck. We determined that we both don't really watch TV, though she does have a favorite sports team. I sat between Peta and Kumi, across from Little J, Jolyon, and Bruno at Draft King where we took like 20 seats at the long table in the back. Lots of fun and joking around as we ordered, waited for food to come (like a lottery), chowed, sharing french fries and other bites. They ordered a tower of beer (4.5 liters or so in a tall-ass clear tube), as usual, and as usual, I had water. At one point, Peta said something like, "I didn't hear that;" and I was like, "what?" as a joke, as I always do in that situation. She called me an asshole, and I thought she was just being a little harsh, so I put my arm around her, "oh; it's just cause I like you... I always make that joke when someone says, 'what?' or 'could you repeat that?'" She was really upset and left the table for a bit, as I suddenly realized she says she is slightly hard of hearing. oopps When she came back, I was like, "Peta, I'm really sorry; just let me say one thing: I don't think about you as hard of hearing. I think of you as just a 'normal' person" (I used bunny ears for "normal;" who is normal??) "Had I remembered what you've said, I wouldn't have made that joke." She was like, "it's okay," and seemed to be okay after that. I followed up with what I had said before: "and I really do like you.." Also got some digits of different cell phones: Tamau's, Little J's, and Peta's. Was invited to go to karaoke with Tamau et. al. on Friday. Awesome! It became time to leave, as rumors began to fly about people wanting to do カラオ ケ tonight, completely down for which I was. We ultimately (no pun intended) left it up to Kumi, whose last day of ultimate (with this group, for a year) was today. She chose to visit the karaoke place right next door, which we did, as a group of 14 people. permalinkkaraoke 1:18am JST Monday 30 April 2007 (day 13550) I made sure not to hog the machines, but ended up doing Eminem's "Lose Yourself" (they didn't have "Business" nor "Rabbit Run"), then ペパ家部 (sp) by Pink Lady (just the refrain), "Livin' La Vida Loca" by Ricky Martin, part of "Wuthering Heights" by Kate Bush (which is in an impossibly high register for me), and looked for "The Distance" by Cake (nope), and something good by Beastie Boys (nope).. I forgot to look for DMX or Nas or that other one I did sorta well last time I karaoked. I sat between Hisa and Yasuko, and knocked her small can of ウメ酒 from her hand. Oops. I slurped a bit of it off the table so as not to waste it. Mmmm. I like umeshu. Everyone seemed to have a hella good time, though Peta left just before all her songs came on. D'oh! permalinktrain 1:26am JST Monday 30 April 2007 (day 13550) Headed back to the station after hugs to Kumi, and then got the good news that she'll be at the Friday thing as well. Cool! I'll very likely see her again, then. Hand shake with Shag, then Kumi, then a cool handshake with Tamau went awry, and turned into alternating fist to fist punches. See you Friday! They headed up to the southwest bound platform, and the rest of us to my platform. Bye to Little J, Bruno, Yasuko on the train bound for Oimachi, then jumped on my train with Rob, Hisa and Julie, LJ's girl. Only two stations to my stop as I explained to Rob where "that other train" (Oimachi) goes -vs- where we were going. It's nice to have a bit of a sense of the Tokyo train system. permalinkprev day next day |
