Meditative mixup

7:45am JST Wednesday 3 October 2007 (day 13706)

Woke up early and decided to get going instead of continue snoozing. Showered, then decided to do my morning meditation early. I set my alarm for 7:41, which would give me a 20 ~ 21 minute meditation.

Just as I got started on the body-awareness part of meditation, my alarm went off. Wow! That was a fast 20 minutes! I felt really excited that it seemed to go so fast; perhaps I was getting better at the meditation thing. Perhaps tomorrow I should set my alarm for 30 minutes. Wow. Then I'll be well on my way to an hour each morning.

I hit snooze on my alarm, settled back into meditation.

Wondered why the alarm seemed a bit louder than it needed to be, shhh shhh shhh no thinking and a bit later the alarm went off again, and again I pressed snooze, then came out of meditation a couple minutes past that.

Awesome. Just how long was that meditation? That musta been like 28 minutes.

I checked my phone-clock. 7:38. Wow, so I started at 7:10.. wait, no I didn't. I thought it was more like 7:20. Hmmm.

Oh, snap! That was my WAKE UP alarm! My 20 minute meditation hasn't even finished yet! Well, しょ がない, and back into meditation, not quite as ego-filled as before.

Steve Jobs commencement speech

7:59am JST Wednesday 3 October 2007 (day 13706)

Connecting the dots, calligraphy, . can't connect the dots forward. Just believe they will connect and follow your heart when it leads off the well-worn path.

I loved what I did. You've got to find what you love. And that is as true for work as for your
lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly
satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love
what you do.

Keep looking; don't settle.

Lots of good stuff about evaluating life based on limited lifespan.

Stay hungry; stay foolish.

Work javascript regex

3:06pm JST Wednesday 3 October 2007 (day 13706)

Cool. I just got a regular expression thing to work in Javascript. Only caveat: during the middle of my work, I realized I'll have to do a page refresh anyway to do a mySQL read/write. I was hoping to skip that page refresh so that it would be a hair faster and just to see if I could do it.

I'll probably post the code when I get back from lunch.

5:27pm JST

Okay, in the remote chance that someone can benefit, I have made a downloadable version of my php code that uses javascript regex to replace URLs within a block of text. Start with parentwindow.php[.txt].

Hahaha. 中谷さん just came back so I showed him what I have written so far. Due to his brain on different topics all day, language barrier, fast explanation, and limited visual cues as to the purpose of my amazing creation, after I showed him, he was like, "so what are you working on?"

abe lunch

5:31pm JST Wednesday 3 October 2007 (day 13706)

Today, because I forgot the lunch Ami made, I went to Shakey's, hoping to get a free sympathy drink from the waitress after I accidentally left an empty tupperware container there that was thrown out by the next day (yesterday). The waitress wasn't there (yet), but when I sat down at the table near a non-Japanese guy, he was like, "hey you can join me if you want," or something.. and though I had brought my notes from work so I could lay out some brain cells on this project, I was like, "yeah; I'd like to meet someone new."

We both appreciated that our names specialize in being only three letters, then I was like, "so what's your story?" and he told me he's just winding down the last couple days of a 2 week adventure here in Tokyo. I enjoyed hearing his experience with trying to get around town. (Hard to find a balance between the extremes: girls waving him away while pointing to their wedding rings; people walking blocks out of their way to help.)

Abe's features reminded me of a darker version of Vin Diesel. Abe's from Toronto, works for Rockstar Games, and likes Japanese culture, especially anime. After we talked about living durations extending surprisingly fast, he stated that he'll be leaving Toronto for (hopefully) LA within 18 months.

We talked about other stuff, but I can't remember any other that shouldn't be kept offline without permission.
