Dream

1:55pm JST Sunday 18 November 2007 (day 13752)

This morning I had an interesting dream, ...

In a big department store set of buildings, got into an elevator with Ami and she deftly hit a sequence of buttons like a menuing system which described where she wanted the elevator to take us: Down to 5th floor, over to the next building, Down to 2nd floor, then over to the next building, Up to 7th floor. Her route was well beyond my knowledge of the elevator system; I didn't even know they could go sideways, much less where we should go sideways, much much less how to do it.

As the buttons flashed on the screen she pushed the correct ones faster than I could really see what was going on. I'd need to ask her how to do that sometime.

We arrived at our destination and the receptionist was like, "Rob, why are you late?" and I was like, "psshh you do *not* even know how much earlier I am than I woulda been!" but I remembered what had happened:

When I left before, it was because one of the teachers didn't understand "where I was going" with the lesson; she thought (correctly) that I didn't have a plan for my lesson. She was like, "can I talk to you a sec?" and we stepped out and started to tell each other our respective life histories; she had lived through the recent hurricane, but it turns out she was a teenager at that time. I was like, "wait; you were in that hurricane last month and you were a teenager at that time??" it just didn't make much sense to me.

then some stuff I forgot

and then had to hurry back, so Ami did the elevator secret code and when we arrived the receptionist was all, "why are you late?" and all the YRUUers were there, but not organized and certainly not ready to study. I was like, "aight everybody; listen up," but my voice was barely audible, so I walked through the crowd confiscating everyone's frisbees to get their attention. I was like, "aight; we're going to play a game ..." and proceeded to explain some game that would be both fun and educational as I woke up.

Kuji

2:05pm JST Sunday 18 November 2007 (day 13752)

just arrived in Kuji for ultimate.

10:56am JST Monday 19 November 2007 (day 13753)

I'm writing now about ultimate yesterday.

Best parts of the day:

  1. on the way to the field, Ami and I passed a little (!) lot of persimon trees. The farmer was there and he gave us about 10, which I loaded into my pockets and headed to the field.

  2. Genny with a G brought cookies!! Chocolate chip with dried raspberries, I think! They were delicious, I know! Too bad for Jason C; he got none cause I snarfed like 100. They were soooo good. When she talked about starting a cookie sales company, I told her I want a standing order of five dozen per week. She asked "is that 12 or a baker's dozen?" I was like, "a Genny dozen." She goes, "okay, three."

  3. Rob threw a really long pass that I *bolted* over to catch and barely maintained my balance as it slammed into my thenar eminence (*) as I caught it. Jason C and Wendi both said it was a good catch; Jason doesn't give out compliments very often so my sore hand felt vindicated.

  4. Ami played! She ran around on the field for some points, and seemed as interested and confused as a new player should be. Great job!

  5. the sky was beautiful and clear. I think I noticed an undular bore wave as we were walking back.

(*) five minutes ago, I did not know the term "thenar eminence"

Thing that were not as pleasant as the good things:

  1. It was so cold!

  2. I glonked the fuck out of my knee in the endzone when I fell while squirming around Geoff for an attempted point in the endzone. I almost caught it, but then was pretty much in pain and not able to run well. Some of the others encouraged me off the field to take care of it.

I got another cookie and watched Ami play as I sat on the water faucet thing letting a little stream of cold water run on my now purple spotted knee.

After about five minutes of water dribblage, I figured it had been long enough so joined the group as they were packing up to leave.

I enjoyed holding Ami's hand on the way back.

Things are chicken soup with us.

Lovely hot shower

12:15pm JST Monday 19 November 2007 (day 13753)

My knee felt sore but basically fine when I showered, showering it with love and kisses and hot hot water. Interesting that I noticed the difference between 40 degrees and 44 degrees. I guess it would be more interesting if I hadn't asked Ami if the water was less than 44 degrees, but simply told her it was with a request to pump up the heat.

(( Everywhere that I've seen hot water in Japan, it's either been from a hot spring or from a hot water on-demand type thing. Press the button, gas turns on to heat the water as is flows through the coils, hot water pours out with a delay of about 4 seconds.

This seems like a pretty good system. No hot water tanks; no "running out of hot water" during long showers, and, when bathtubs are involved, there's a thermometer built in. Press the up arrow to bump the temperature up, down for down. Yummy hot hot water.. Mmmmmm. ))
