Entries this day: NaBloPoMo Unfinished_email_NaNoWriMo.org Zzzz_late_bloomin'_NaNoWriMo zzzzz_today zzzzzz_sew_ready_for_bed NaBloPoMo 11:30pm JST Friday 23 November 2007 (day 13757) I can see how this would be hard for most people. Having an entry every day for a month is easy if I fill in the blanks after the fact. But, genuinely, this entry is being written thirty minutes before the day is up, so I'm still in competition for winning all the fabulous prizes of NaBloPoMo. But, to be honest, I probably wouldn't have written today if not for the invitation Sean gave me at the beginning of the month. I wonder how he's done. I also wonder why I didn't get a cheerleading email from the organizer at the two week or even three week mark. Perhaps we'll get one soon as the one-week-to-go mark arrives in the US. I'm going to post this and then check Sean's blog. permalinkUnfinished email NaNoWriMo.org 12:08am JST Saturday 24 November 2007 (day 13758) HI Christine! You don't know me, but I'm a friend of Sean's and I found your site through his. I see the little tag on yer site: 12:32am JST That's as far as I got before I did a bit more research. The icon on Chrissy's site was not clickable, which is what prompted me to start writing the email. I wanted to know what it was, what she was measuring, and how I could get one. Something, apparently, had reached 30041 words. I was hoping it was her blog, and that I could somehow set up an ongoing check of the word count for my journal. I've got to have a shload of words in this journal by now. Turns out, it's for National Novel Writing Month, and I decided to join (only 77% late for the party!) For the record (and I hope she doesn't mind) I've linked it to her NaNoWriMo page: Anyways, I started writing to her, and was going to ask, "wot's dat yur counting?" But I figured that out, so I was going to be like, "will you be my novel writing buddy? I've only not written in my novel for ten years!!" (actually nine years) And then I decided to figure out *my* novel word count: (8190 words as I write this) Gah. I had hoped it would be more, but... what I've written so far ain't so much. So then I was going to be like, "um, could you hold my hand and teach me character development techniques and basically cheerlead me to fame and fortune?" And then I was like, "fuckit" and cancelled the message. I'm not going to bother some girl I don't know to help me with a project for which I haven't helped myself in 9 years. 1:24am JST But I will spend an hour creating an animated gif icon to indicate where I had stopped typing. I wanted to clarify that the tagline at the bottom is my tagline and not what I had written specifically to her. 1:42am JST And I'll write her to let her know she has a cheerleader/stalker who has linked her icon. Hey Christine I saw your site linked from Sean's. I was curious about the evil_olive icon, figured out its meaning, and ended up linking it to my site, for which I am hereby asking yourpermalink Zzzz late bloomin' NaNoWriMo 3:19am JST Saturday 24 November 2007 (day 13758) So, I mentioned NaNoWriMo to Laura and we decided to do our own competition in December. We're going to follow the same rules as the November one, but just with different dates, and trade our results in the new year. As we were making these plans, I was chatting with Christine on gmail. However, so as to be confusing, here is a snippet of the chat with Laura: Laura: Ok, but I want anyone who joins our competition to follow the rules. me: I see Laura: The first NaNoWriMo competition had only 21 people, with 6 people finishing their 50,000 words. So a small competition is realistic. me: Well, before you wrote that you want anyone who joins to follow the rules, I already invited her to join. So I can't take that back, Laura: But you can point her to the FAQ and try to persuade her, like I tried to persuade you. me: and since there will be no real prizes in our competition, I don't think it matters BUT I will happily show her the link to the faq perhaps she also hasn't seen it. Do I have to start my novel from scratch on November 1? I personally don't mind who writes starting with what, but once the FB group is created, I'll send that link and the FAQ link to Christine. Okay, bedtime. permalinkzzzzz today 3:33am JST Saturday 24 November 2007 (day 13758) Ah cripes; I never wrote about today. I worked on the Castle of Dreams wiki.. I'm basically ready to open it up to the public (not that it's not open, but to start advertising it more), but I still wanna get the chat thing sorted out. For some reason, each time I've tried to get phpFreeChat embedded in the site, it doesn't work. It actually worked one time, but I don't remember how and haven't been able to replicate it. Something was wonky with the way it worked, so I changed it, and it hasn't worked since. Blah. But so I worked out how to make a namespace "historical_scroll:" and then how to protect a namespace. Ami came over and we romped like monkeys, went shopping (during which I felt a little light headed, presumably from not having eaten properly), then she cooked nabe (boiled vegetables) while I worked on sewing the pocket of my snow pants (which I've been wearing to work, despite the fact that they have holes in the leg (from scraping a wall during my TJ Bike adventure) and that they are snow pants), which was a bit of a trick because the pocket is in the lining of the pants, and not visible if I turn them inside out. BUT, I was able to slide the pocket between the layers to the (parenthetically) aforementioned hole to access the pocket. Sweet. permalinkzzzzzz sew ready for bed 4:23am JST Saturday 24 November 2007 (day 13758) Just finished sewing the pocket on my snowpants. permalinkprev day next day |
