Entries this day: Dream Wikileaks YRUU_YA_rant_in_chat_with_Calder must_check_out Dream 7:59am JST Tuesday 19 February 2008 (day 13845) On vacation with Ami, sitting nakedly on the floor and gazing out the window of our cabin on the beach, two flight attendants walked by and glanced inside. One stuck her tongue out flirtatiously and then they reappeared at the door on the adjacent wall. They came inside and chatted a bit, asking me where I'm from and then asking specifics about Texas, and specifically about "hispanics," which had me a bit confused; I was like, "that's a term generally given to people who were born in Mexico and have come to live in Texas." Ami came in for a brief second to say HI and then went back into the other room when she saw everything was okay. They asked why they wanted to live in Texas; I was like, "the US has forced the Mexican economy into rubbish so it can be easily taken over by the Amero. permalinkWikileaks 4:34pm JST Tuesday 19 February 2008 (day 13845) Someone is trying to take it down, so I'm trying to keep Wikileaks up. permalinkYRUU YA rant in chat with Calder 12:47 PM Calder: hi rob.12:49 PM me: howdy 12:50 PM Calder: i read something today and i want to know if it is the truth. okay? me: k 12:51 PM Calder: the reason you stopped being an advisor. what i read is that (they said) a few of the youth were made uncomfortable by you. it isn't that i believe that any youth would say that about you, but i do believe it was something swuuc would say to get rid of someone. 12:52 PM me: I heard the same thing, and I asked who it was who said they were made to feel uncomfortable, but I never got any answers. 12:53 PM Calder: so that is the reason. me: no Calder: what is the reason? me: The reason I left is because Bryn Cain said, "if you stay in YRUU forever, even though you want to travel around the world, then you will be teaching by example to not follow your dreams." 12:54 PM I wanted to travel the world Calder: oh. me: I'm sure I may have made several youth uncomfortable by climbing on couches or whatnot... 12:55 PM Calder: i doubt thats what they meant by uncomfortable. why wouldnt you tell us that when you left? me: but I don't believe I made any youth "personally" uncomfortable through inappropriate youth/advisor relations 12:56 PM Calder: i dont think so either. me: Well, the reason isn't "Bryn Cain said...." but she did make the fact apparent to me, and I could see she was right. I was disallowed to come to San Antonio 1992,.... 12:57 PM J N-P impLied that I wasn't allowed to come to Houston Rally 1993 either, and she worked out that I could come for 5 minutes on Saturday night for the going away party that Colleen set up. 12:58 PM Once I got there and asked wtf was up with "Rob not allowed to come" the UH leaders were like "wtf? we never said that." Calder: 2003? me: yah Calder: haha 12:59 PM me: hahahahahaha 10 years off hahahaha Calder: i had heard you werent allowed to come but i didnt think it was the church that had said that. i am not a big fan of J N-P me: Well, I don't know from where that rumor came, but it wasn't Houston. Neither am I. Calder: i think most of the district is pretty pissed off with her right now. 1:00 PM and they say she has to work with someone else, yea, sure. me: why? Calder: but if this is the case, then she needs to grow a spine. hold on i will show you. 1:04 PM here is the email(minus the actual application) that was sent to pat connor. by J N-P Send us your best and brightest! We are now accepting applications for staff at the SWUUC Youth Camp. Please take a moment to think about responsible youth and adults in your congregation who would be good for the positions open and ask them to apply. You can open this to your entire program but we would really like to have people apply who you highly recommend. We are particularly looking for people who have not been to SWUUSI youth camps or even rallies, though not exclusively. We have amazing co-deans who are ready and willing to help make changes and fresh people with new ideas are just what we need. We are striving to create a wonderful and unique UU camp experience for youth and need you to help make that happen. Thanks for your help. 1:05 PM me: one sec 1:06 PM hmmm Who is Pat Connor? 1:07 PM Calder: um. phat pat i mean who knew he had a real name? me: hahahahaha that was my first guess, but didn't know for sure Calder: that was pretty funny. 1:08 PM me: who are these deans and co-deans? Calder: co deans of yruu swuusi? me: yes; are they youth? Calder: i dont know about deans i assume co cos me: minions of JN-P? 1:09 PM Calder: yes.but so far my understanding is that they dont want change. me: no change is good for me Calder: one of them is a henshaw(adrienne, natalie, who was also a codean, and now olivia) no change is good for me i mean it will always be imperfect there will always be problems people smoking pot in the woods 1:10 PM being mean to waitresses at applebees whatever its not about being perfect its about learning to improve. 1:15 PM me: I think I know Adrienne, though I thought she was at YA SWUUSI Calder: im just saying she is related to one of the codeans this year and a codean from two years ago 1:16 PM me: Oh, I didn't see "a" before Henshaw Calder: both of her sisters are or were codeans. haha me: coo Calder: you would. really neat family. 1:19 PM me: Oh, so you said the district is pissed at JNP, ... is this email the reason? by "district" do you mean district youth? what about adults? even though I'm all for youth empowerment, the truth of YRUU is that youth empowerment happens because of adult support 1:20 PM so if the district adults are not pissed at her, or (worse) if they are happy with her, then JNP SWUUSI will eventually come to be. 1:21 PM Calder: young adults at least ugh. 1:22 PM me: I'm glad the young adults are pissed. Calder: the thing though, is that yac seems to be the biggest "supporter" of youth empowerment me: eventually young adults will be adults and perhaps rein the reign back to the youth. 1:23 PM Calder: but my impression of yac, and a big part of the reason i never ran, is that it is a place where youth can FEEL empowered, but they only get what they want when it is aligned exactly with what the adults want me: but what often happens (far as I can tell) is that youth grow up and leave UUism, and non UU youth join UUism without knowing youth empowerment. 1:24 PM Calder: i see that. but i think it is partially a result of poor young adult programming. me: In a way, yes, but having a YAC on the adult board was quite a cool thing. Dunno if there still is one Calder: thats why i am not as active. me: but Jeremy Loomis-Norris was awesome on the adult board Calder: its nice, but it isnt enough. the entire loomis-norris family is amazing. 1:25 PM me: yes; YA programming is weak because they have absolutely no idea what to do with themselves once they are allowed to do anything. they're just like, "fuckit, let's just sit here and drink." which is just what "adults" do in their own homes, but don't have to drive hundreds of miles to get there. 1:26 PM eventually they're like, "why do I gotta drive a hundred miles... ____ can't be there this time; he's got to work, so fuckit I won't go" and it falls to bits IF 1:27 PM there was someone willing to be like, "DOODS! we have some hella awesome shit to do; stop being lazy asses and let's deepen our friendships and spiritual connections and drop all the old high school dramas..." then YA could be something. 1:28 PM I know a couple of cats have tried that, but without "actual authority," they can't force the YAs to bond more than they already don't. 1:29 PM Frank Roesler III had some supa activities for us. The two girls whose names I've forgotten had some great activities. We did those few things and I really had fun. 1:30 PM But, of course I'm saying all this as an anomaly of sorts: I'm too old to be a YAer, and I don't drink nor hang out in the ways that I saw them hanging out. My idea of hanging out is to ask really probing hard questions of each other and basking in emotional honesty. 1:31 PM I like my little rant; I think I'll post it. I'd be interested in your thoughts if you are willing. 1:33 PM Calder: i like that rant im not a big drinker. me: thanks! I'm glad to hear it. Calder: but it is fun to drink socially, and i drink beer. me: I've decided that I won't drink at all anymore. Calder: it seems that this year celeste is really looking for good ideas for activities is there a reason 1:34 PM me: I have never been drunk, but I used to have a single drink or a taste of someone's drink, but that seemed...... dishonest or something. Calder: like a power shuffle for YA. i thought that was a great idea i dont think thats dishonest 1:35 PM i have been drunk. but never drunk enough to be sick or hungover or anything like that. me: Well, I would say, "I rarely drink," trying to emphasize the rarely to such a degree that made me unique. So now I'm like, fuck dat, and just say, "I don't drink." "why?" 1:36 PM "because it's not good for my body, and I don't want to pay a lot of money for a headache." "but you don't have to get drunk, and it's a social lubricant; it makes conversations easy." 1:37 PM "I'm willing to be silly without being intoxicated, and I have enough trouble remembering what I did the night before." BUT, Calder, when it gets down to it, the truth is, I'm afraid to lose control of myself. I don't want to act like an idiot and not remember it. 1:38 PM back in a bit... 1:39 PM Calder: i understand that mostly i just like to drink a beer every once in a while and i definitely dont think its a social lubricant. 1:40 PM people choose to act the way they act, whether they are drinking or not.
