Insurance

I've been waiting for a while for my insurance to start with work, but my tooth is saying fuck insurance and go to the clinic. So I'm going to call today and just pay for it out of pocket. It's only 70% coverage anyway, so pretty wack insurance. (that's just sour grapes, actually) I feel a bit foolish for having the carrot of future insurance keep me blinded from just getting my teeth fixed now.

Cool. I got an appointment for tomorrow at 9:30am, and 村上さん said something that made me think the insurance is in effect already; I just don't have a card yet, so I will be reimbursed laterz.

The only bad news:

Tomorrow I have a dentist appointment at 9:30am, so I can probably get
to the Hanami Party on time, but I might be a little late.  :-(

Swelling eye

My right eyelid is swollen. For a long time I just thought my eye was itchy, but now that today it's suddenly gotten worse, I realize it's swollen. How does one eyelid sell? The left eyelid is perfectly fine. but I can literally feel the pressure on my right eyeball due to the swelling. Previously that was just a vague irritation that I considered to just be itchy.

So I'm a bit freaked out by this, but don't really want to go to a western trained doctor for meds, but I'm going to make an appointment soon.

I wonder if it's from too much computerin'...

Just now leaving work, but didn't actually work this late. The last two+ hours was spent watching the third part of The Power of Nightmares, and most of _Be Kind Rewind_, which I quite enjoyed for an hour+ before I just looked up to find it was nearly 10pm and Ami would be finishing her thing soon. So byebye work.

I did get some stuff done today: basically allowing the admin to mark videos as recommeded, and allowing users to check the recommended selection of videos. At first I was looking for a way to make recommended be an extra channel (type of vid), but then realized it would be way easier to keep them separate, and then the added bonus that it allows looking for recommended videos per channel.

And yes, that is the extent of our careful user interface design. I'm not super proud of it, but it seems to be what they want me to do. Just do it.

At work I've started working on ebitv, which allows users to upload vids and share with friends. Unlike youtube, all the videos are screened by humans before they are allowed to be shown. While adding a feature to the administrator screen (allowing videos to be "recommended,"), I tried to recommend some videos that had already been screened by humans and classified as NG, or "no good," The screen which allows recommending the video actually displays the video (of course), and I was a bit shocked to find it was porn. Now, of course, I would say this just meant someone had uploaded porn, *but*, this is our test system which requires a password to view.

Did they just get copied from the live system? Did someone internal upload porn as a test? They're just one minute sample clips from a website. Oh yes, "they," as in multiple videos that I watched a couple times last night to put myself to sleep.
