Dream

1:53pm JST Monday 31 March 2008 (day 13886)

With my brother behind me, I hung on tightly to the sides of the plane as the pilot (an old General in front of me) flew way close to the ground and all sorts of weird directions over the landscape, in ways I thought certainly would be annoying to the houses and farmlands down below us. We were over what felt like our neighborhood from my high school days.

I don't remember a whole lot, but that just came back to me..

Work

1:33pm JST Monday 31 March 2008 (day 13886)

Good stuff today at work. I assured 中谷さん that I could change all occurences of the old server name with the new name in the entire file system. I didn't know how to do it, but I knew it could be done, and I even knew with what tools it could be done. Just had to figure out how to use them. Finally I ended up with this:

find . -name .svn -prune -o -exec sed -i 's/oldtext/newtext/g' {} \;

My understanding:

find files starting with . (local directory)

-name .svn -prune means if you find .svn for a filename (directory name), skip it.

-o OR

-exec execute

sed -i sed is the stream editor. -i means change the files in place.

's/new/old/g' Substitute old text for new text Globally.

{} sends the filenames that find found to sed

\; ; terminates the -exec from find, and \ escapes it so the shell won't think it means to end its command.

7:43pm JST

Not sure why this ain't workin'.

But there's a byebye party for とびたさん tonight, so we're heading out.

byebye stinky party

9:53pm JST Monday 31 March 2008 (day 13886)

Today was the byebye party for とびたさん, and boy was it stinky. She's nice and friendly enough, and even bought presents for everyone. I enjoyed knowing her name for some reason... Maybe because it's similar to the kid's name in ドラエモン comics (maybe even th same name). Anyway, everyone but like 3 people were smoking smoking smoking (actually it wasn't continually fresh smoke blowin) out of their chattering mouths, but the stank sure stunk up the air and I was basically wanting to be *anywhere* else. So, I left first. Though to be honest that was only after ゆみこ suggested that it was okay to leave; everyone would be leaving on their own schedule, and the party looked nowhere close to winding down as I left at 9:30 or so.

One of my core issues is floating around this point. When I claim I don't like to meet people, one reason is that "people" all like to drink and smoke, two activities I find disgusting and/or pointless. At the same time, I'd like to have some closer friendships with people with whom I work, but.. I just can't help but think there could be some more consideration given for the non-smokers in the group.

Cigarettes are so cheap in Japan that one guy at my first job here said, "I actually make money by smoking," or some such exaggeration just to make the point. it's like 350 yen per pack or so, I think. And so smoking is like the second language of the culture after Japanese.

Now I am repulsed by my clothes and am going to go home and shower while my clothes are in the washer. No way are they going to chill with deadly toxic fumes emanating from my laundry bag. Disgusting.

Anyway, I know I have some more meditation and emotional work to do on this topic. I think it boils down to shame of my own imperfections being projected onto others' imperfections. I am quick to judge smokers as stupid, thoughtless and disgusting, not to mention destroying the world with carcinogens and butts.

I sure ain't perfect, but sometimes imagine that I am, and often want to be. Gotta release this more more more.

Home now, and just took a shower. My clothes are in the washer. I'm about to floss and brush my toofs and then do 1 or 2 24-minute reiki attunement things while waiting for laundry to finish. (*)

On the way home, I finished the previous entry while in Jiyugaoka where the super express train came by so I jumped on it and next stop was Musashi Kosugi where I visited the Tokyu Store and got three things of 200ml ice cream (98 yen (whereas in the convenience stores, the price recently jumped from 103 yen to 126 yen!)), granola and soy milk, then ate one of the ice creams while watching some diesel shovel (as opposed to a steam shovel) dig up asphalt and 8 inches of dirt below that. Good times.

(*) or I'll get caught up looking at xkcd.

12:29am JST

I finished my reiki stuff.
