I lost the SSL password, and right now our SSL server isn't serving. It's a $350 mistake cause that's the price it will cost to get a new one. But peeps around me are saying, "wait just a minute;" let's not be hasty, but dang, I see this as the only solution, unless I could remember the previous password. I know it was a passphrase, something like, This is the great $$L pa$$word or something like that. But, I just tried, and that's not it. In February, I had it carefully written on a scrap of paper on my now clean desk. Next password will be a bit more carefully distributed to co-workers. 5:39pm JST Thursday 1 May 2008 (day 13917) They got it fixed. I've printed out a nice form with "all" our passwords and distributed to everyone. I'm not sure if they actually had to pay $350 or not, but it's all handled and the passphrase is known by all those who need to know. 6:51pm JST Gotta head out to meet Yurika. Spoke briefly with Nakatani who basically said it's okay this time, but I ought not let there be a next time for such a mistake. Basically, it kept our web server in Maintanence mode all day, and required 2 worker-days to get it fixed. permalinkSSL password nihongo 8:50pm JST Thursday 1 May 2008 (day 13917) This is from my boss. I can't read it without significant help. permalink Yurika 8:34pm JST Thursday 1 May 2008 (day 13917) Lesson with Yurika tonight. She confirmed that the Japanese used by 中谷 was pretty noteworthy. Her excellent homework shows me how hard she's working to learn English. My eyes drinking in her makeup shows me how I still have the hots for her in a way. But we're safely past all that so no worries. After the lesson I noted that the underground connection to the other side of the street is open, so we walked down there for a second. I found the name of the new line on a map. Fukutoshin or something. I bet it's the one to which my beloved Toyoko line will connect, giving me a straight shot all the way from my station to Ikebukero, which is pretty dang cool. permalinkain't going to PB tonight 8:37pm JST Thursday 1 May 2008 (day 13917) It's late enough that I've chosen not to go to PB tonight to volunteer. I'd be spending almost an hour just to travel and volunteer for an hour. permalinkhardy heron 8:40pm JST Thursday 1 May 2008 (day 13917) I popped the Live CD of ubuntu 6.04 into my other machine last night. It loaded up well enough, but there was no network access. I looked briefly online for help and noted something that might indicate that the Airport card specs aren't released, so developers can't develop for it. If that's the case, it pretty much sucks, but I'd be surprised to think that XP can run on Macs, but not Ubuntu. Anyway, I bought CDs so I can burn a live CD for Hardy Heron tonight and see if I can clarify things on this issue. If I *can* run ubuntu with wireless access on that machine, I almost certainly will, just for the learning experience, and to make my software all legal. Right now it's got 10.5 on it, which, while nice in some respects, isn't necessarily nice enough for me to run out and buy it. But I'm glad to have gotten this test period to use it. I like Spaces, and I like the clean desktop. But Hardy Heron has the equivalent of Spaces, and they brag about having a clean desktop (on startup), so I'd be anti-impressed if they've done nothing to help keep it nice during normal use. Of course it's clean when it's new! BUT, if it won't run my wireless card, I'll stick with OS X. ALSO, in any case, I've decided I will *not* just transfer all my shizzle from this compizzle to the new one. I'll use the new one as if it's on its own, though I wouldn't be adverse to networking them at some points, not that I think those points will come often. 10:34pm JST Thursday 1 May 2008 (day 13917) Oh. Hardy Heron doesn't support PPCs. I'm 90% sure that includes PowerBooks. Dang. I wonder if they will be supported again soon. So now I'm going to try the Live CD on my MacBook. (My "real" computer.) (this one) (on which I'm typing now) (which I'm apparently loathe to shut down..) 11:02pm JST Thursday 1 May 2008 (day 13917) Aight; I found a version that will work with my PowerBook, so I'm burning the disk image now. 11:42pm JST Thursday 1 May 2008 (day 13917) It didn't seem to work; the screen went all wonky, but came back fine after a hard boot. Back in OS X, I looked at partitioning the drive, but it won't let me select anything but Mac partition. I wonder if that's cause it's already got a volume on the entire drive. But now bedtime; I'll try again in the morning zzzzzz permalink |
