Art

10:44am JST Wednesday 10 September 2008 (day 14049)

Painted a ring on my big canvas (in honor of LHC?), and added some bits to Bean's painting, and splopped my excess paint across a small painting, which is basically completely covered in paint now. I have an idea for it, but stage two will have to wait until the existing (oil) paint is dry.

I've written the below to start a project I've wanted to do for a long time (and barely started, but abandoned):

[[Colleen]] has probably been my most-continuously connected friend from my advising years in [[YRUU]]. She was a youth at the time, and a lot of my brain cells are still in that mindset. But we're slowly moving away from that (she drove me-an-Ami around Austin last summer; she's commissioned me for this painting; I say HI randomly to her on email/chat).

It all started, perhaps, when she sent me a little stuffed blue-green rabbit.

[[Francois]] started as a little stuffed blue-green rabbit, sent to me by [[Colleen]] for Easter 2003, just after I arrived in Japan.

Naked and unnamed, the rabbit hung on my wall in Japan for two (2) years, in good ol' [[Bell Wisteria]], where I lived with [[Frank]], [[Matty]], then [[Genki Man Dan]], but not with [[some cat named Steve]].

Now in Nakameguro, so have to change trains.

The great discussion between peeps on my nerd-list (Dude, Fred, Jesse, James) has morphed again into some sort of politi-religical debate, far far from the original question of whether the LHC will destroy the earth.

However, all has not been lost: someone posted a link to has the lhc destroyed the earth . com, which I forwarded to Andrew who hasn't responded, Phatpat who laughed, and Ryan McCarthy who asked if the site updates automatically.

"no," I assured him. "you have to hit refresh."

Lunch, Pre

Plan to go to lunch with Travis today, but first hope to get a good start on reading blog entries while reading the keitai admin page.

Lunch, featuring Travis

1:19pm JST Wednesday 10 September 2008 (day 14049)

Met Travis (who works in my same building for lunch; he covered me at Thanks, Nature, which has become my favorite eating facility near my work. I got two slices of quiche for 390 each (I think), and they were quite yummy, though not quite filling for my tummy.

Anyway, I told Travis about iknow.co.jp, or I started to tell him, but he interrupted; he's not impressed with their flash based product. Ah well. I like it, and it seems to be working for me, though I've only used it for two days so far. We shall see; we shall see.

He told me about some other stuff that I think would be good for discussion in my men's group, but he didn't seem particularly interested in that. I hope he can sort it all out.

Lunch, post

10:15pm JST Wednesday 10 September 2008 (day 14049)

After lunch with Travis, most of my time went to watching YouTube vids suggesting the moon landing was a hoax, as well as Airplane Day being misrepresented by mass media.

But then I tweaked the keitai admin site a bit, adding a footer and title, plus getting the most recent blog entries read from the DB. Still gonna do a bit on that: make their retrieval optional, as well as the menu.

Then, Blue Man Group.

Man Group, Blue

10:26pm JST Wednesday 10 September 2008 (day 14049)

Ami and I saw Blue Man Group in Roppongi tonight! A lot of the same elements from Tubes, the Blue Man Group show I got to see in Boston with Jen Hazel were featured in this show, and they had some funny stuff in (written) Japanese that, iirc, roughly corresponds to stuff from Tubes. But, they also had quite a cool element that I certainly do *not* remember from Tubes: on the darkened stage, two characters who had been projected with laser lights turned into real people, and then the Blue Man Trio joined them, wearing hip-hop inspired sideways hats and rainbow lighted jumpsuits. All five characters on the stage had lighted rods they were swinging around in unison, except for the center guy, who bounced rods on either side of his body.

This is an example of a video (which I don't have) being worth 10,000 words (which I'm not going to write).

The show culminated with a massive waste of heavy white paper towel rolls. I collected some with the idea that I can use it somehow: perhaps for art or spills (or drawing a landscape scene like I used to do as a kid. Long white lengths of paper were perfect for underwater scenes, and the mystery of the sea allowed any created critter to swim about with a smile on its face).

We got some pictures with each of the Blue Men, and even one with the supporting rainbow men. We gave U-Cow cards to most of them. U-Cow ended up with a bit of blue on his neck (accidental), and a splot on his snout (the Blue Man asked with delay before marking U-Cow). I hope it doesn't come off easily.

Pay Day

10:40pm JST Wednesday 10 September 2008 (day 14049)

Got 150,000 yen for a month's hard(?) work. Should be 250,000 minimum for a normal job, but I'm working as a contractor until takeout is released and starts getting some customers.
