Emails that make you go, Hmmmm.

I got an email from Stephen in Indiana. (He came briefly to Japan and joined our I-group while he was here.) Not quite sure what's funny, but:

Rob,
Something happened to the rabbit on the way back to the mud hut.  I saw this and thought it might make you smile.  See below.  Love the rabbit idea you came up with.  :-)

Loving Dolphin

Take time to work - It is the price of success.

Take time to think - It is the source of power.

Take time to play - It is the secret of perpetual youth.

Take time to read - It is the fountain of wisdom.

Take time to be friendly - It is the road to happiness.

Take time to love and to be loved - It is nourishment for the soul.

Take time to share - It is too short a life to be selfish.

Take time to laugh - It is the music of the heart and harmony for the soul.

Take time to dream - It is hitching your wagon to a star.

rabbit ears in a labrador's mouth

I replied:

HI Stephen

I certainly like the poem, but no smile to see my animal totem
shredded by a dog. Perhaps it's good to know that rabbit may be in
rabbit heaven. :-)

Which of my rabbit ideas do you love?

  - Rob!

Late to work

11:04am JST Thursday 11 September 2008 (day 14050)

Late to work seems to be the modus operandi (sp), so I didn't stress myself to be on time for work today. Instead, I

  1. posted the email that made me go, hmmmm

  2. read yet another article wondering if we'll all die via lhc

  3. read some xkcd. xkcd rules.

  4. wondered wtf was "2girls1cup"

  5. almost hurled.

  6. took a shower

  7. did not work on Colleen's Painting

  8. barely missed the big traffic light crossing Tsunashima Highway"

  9. climbed a tree to look down into the "river"

  10. ran up the scarcely populated escalator

  11. noted the Meguro Line train was scheduled to leave 1 minute before the Toyoko Line.

  12. Watched the Meguro Line doors close, turned around to get on Toyoko Line and had to leap forward as they were closing, use my supra human strngth to pry open the doors

  13. sit down on the train

  14. write this

  15. arrive in Jiyugaoka where I plan to switch trains and take the express to Shibuya, but only if it's a super express. (they call them Limited Express, which for a while confused me cause I'd think Express is faster than Limited Express. In Japan, it's not.

  16. LTD EXP See you!

On time to work

11:45am JST Thursday 11 September 2008 (day 14050)

In Shibuya, I paid my rent for 15 Sep - 15 Oct; put 10,000 yen on my cash card (Pasmo); and paid for 1 month worth of "free" trips from Motosumiyoshi to Shibuya. Just arrived. No one else (from 77hz) is here.

Work

6:43pm JST Thursday 11 September 2008 (day 14050)

Work has featured some coding to let new users know where they are along the registration process. I was having problem with infinite looping at one point, but I think I figured it out. Instead of checking where they should be, making sure they aren't there and sending them there, I check where they should be, then make sure they aren't there and send them there. Hmmm; those are the same. I'm not sure what the actual logic difference is, but basically I split the assertions(?) out of the If statements into other If statements.

I have no idea how to explain what I did, but it's done, and now I'm going to meet Romi for a little translation work.

11:54pm JST

On the train in Shibuya now. At the end of the evening, I showed Malek what takeout looks like so far. I finally got the account creation logic to work correctly (and now we've decided to change it a bit, but it will be easy now that I've figured out how to do it easily), so Malek went through that whole process. Good news to have messages for the users so they know their stuff was saved and what to do next.

Oh, I also need to add a field that asks what kind of venue they are. This will be cool and similar to the logic I use when choosing the location of the venue: when choosing United States as the country, the next field down asks for State, but if they choose Japan, the next field is Prefecture. But it will be one step easier than that because for *that* code, changing the country includes an AJAX call, but this will just be javascript. Well, they're both mootools, but.
