Entries this day: Dream Games Komatsu_lesson Work Dream 8:08am JST Friday 21 November 2008 (day 14121) In a small office, crowded with three desks, lots of stuff, including a model of a waterfall made out of posterboard, and three people who didn't want to work, I was watching the waterfall model, and noted a woodroach climb out of one of the islands on the top of the model and start walking across the river of water before it turned into a waterfall. I stopped the river with a pamphlet of paper for a bit and then let it go to gush water and wash the roach down the falls and off the model. It was able to keep from being flushed all the way down to the bottom, so I caught some more water and tried again. But the water supply was dwindling perhaps because I was only doing asymptoticc progress on getting rid of the insect. Realized I had something to write about, so I was preparing what to write and Andrew came running by like, "I'm going to win the race" even though we're not racing, and he's not even started writing. Male was like, "wtf is he doing?" and I agreed I also had no idea. permalinkGames 10:08am JST Friday 21 November 2008 (day 14121) Chillin' in ¸µ½»µÈ station at the moment, waiting for the ÆüÈæë line train to leave so the train to ½Âë can arrive. 10:10am JST It's leaving; don't worry. On the way down the stairs from the new, improved, Motosumiyoshi station, I decided to go down three steps per step. I usually go *up* three steps at a time, but down just one step at a time. Why? So I went down three steps at at time. I held the hand rail to make sure I didn't clip my ankle (perhaps *that's* why!), but generally speaking, no worries required. However, when I got to the landing, which I had to skip as well as the *next* step below it, I made durn tootin' sure to hold the hand rail as I leap[t|ed] five or so feet total. Landing required the use of both feet, which hadn't previously been sharing steps, but they didn't mind, and my ankles remained undamaged. Then, as the Hibiya line train was slowly (!) arriving, I thought it would be pretty funny to act as the ground crew for an airplane, telling the pilot/driver to keep coming, coming, coming, slowowww, stop! I didn't do it, though; if I'm going to be that silly, I should make sure to put a video online. But when the doors opened, I got the genius idea of walking in one door, and out the next, in the next-next door, and out the -next, all the way down the train until I got to the seats on the far end of the platform. There, I was able to start this entry, and ensure I got a seat to continue this entry. The auspicious gap between "worries" and "required" above took more time than most gaps in this entry. Oh! And on the way to the station, while enjoying the bright sun and blue sky, I saw a jet flying by, and remembered conspiracy theories about the con trails (there wasn't one visible behind this particular jet) *and* the classic conspiracy about chemicals in our water causing rainbows at ground level!!! I thought Jesse and I should make a similar video, confirming that the same chemicals, notably dihydrogen-oxide, are in our tap water in Japan, causing the same rainbow effect! Perhaps (if it hasn't been done already) we can start a string of such videos to confirm the conspiracy... I wonder if I can find that vid without a connection to the web. Meh; not worth my time. If I forget to post it, let me know. 10:31pm JST I couldn't find the original youtube version, but I found it on break.com. permalinkKomatsu lesson 5:09pm JST Friday 21 November 2008 (day 14121) I fell asleep during the lesson. He doesn't do homework, so I made him do it during class, and I fell asleep. He said he felt lonely (my translation of ¤µ¤ß¤·¤¤), and I was like, "well I have to be at work until 10pm tonight because I'm here, but you don't do homework so we can't do anything in class; you're wasting my time and it pisses me off, so do you homework!," politely, in Japanese. permalinkWork <10:19pm JST Friday 21 November 2008 (day 14121) Arrived back at work after Komatsu lesson to find my computer disconnected from the external monitor. Nothing to fear: Andrew installed ubuntu on one of the two machines we picked up a few days ago. Now it's officially allocated as my machine at work. Yay ubuntu! It's quite useable, though not as much like OS X as I imagine it's like MS Windows. Andrew deftly installed Eclipse and the PHP Projection (projection?) and then the remote file system thing for Eclipse. Soon enough I was editing and working on billing project again. Even got some shtuff done: merged two quite similar files, and removed the large chunk of mootools-enhanced javascript from two files. That code was more than half of each file, and almost identical in each one. I pulled that code into its own file, and made the necessary changes to let each main file include it. Then found I had created a bug, and it took nearly as long to make the Task in Tracker as it did to fix the bug, though, to be clear, it was in typing the task details that I realized what the bug must be. "It was working before I did the file merges..." ah! That's what happened. Fixed the file. done! Sooner than later, 10pm arrived, and it turns out I didn't lie to Komatsu after all. I worked until 10pm. permalinkprev day next day |
