BRYN

2:43pm JST Saturday 1 August 2009 (day 14374)

Email to Bryn:

Hey Bestest Bryn!!

So great to hear from you right after I started getting e-reminders of
your upcoming birthday! Now you're just over half my age!

I like how you describe Tony's character in terms of his ABL,
Annie-Bricker-likeability. :-) He must be a great guy! I'm glad you
got to be best mates with him before his adventures in Japan. Perhaps
I'll get to meet him too!

Just a quick update on my OZ plans; they have been moved back a bit;
my best-friend/roommate (actually it's her house, so I'm *her*
roommate) Soness and I were going to go to the Avatar workshop
together, but I realize I need to stay back to help with Cow-Go.

Instead of writing "Cow-Go, which ..." and trying to make an even
longer sentence, introducing Soness and several new Rob's-Life-Terms
in one swoop, I'll give Cow-Go part of its own paragraph:

The Pink Cow is my favorite restaurant in Houston, mostly cause Traci,
the owner works really hard to make it great. She's starting a
language school called Cow-Go, and some months ago asked me to be the
English-speaking manager of the school, handling incoming request from
new students and teachers. In short, I thought I could do it all by
email while in OZ, but I need to meet peeps face-to-face (darn
old-fashioned technology! when will the future arrive???) :-)

So I've canceled my trip to Avatar in OZ winter (whew!!) gotten a full
time programming job (contract work for 4 months), and will help Traci
get Cow-Go started; she thinks we can do it in 6 months. I'm learning
a lot about what it might take to run a business!!(!)

Soness lives by the beach (!!!) and I think, in honor of Bryn's Day,
I'll go there right now. (my multi-month string of daily Saturdays is
about to come to an abrupt pause!!!)

So great to hear from you. I know whatcha mean about YA SWUUSI. Hope
you're okay with missing GA. Is SLC where you escorted me to the ER
late at night? That was the best night ever!!! Thank you. :-)

   Love and Light
   - Rob!

ah! You mentioned Wende; she's doing well as far as I know; I hear
from her about once a year; she and husband Peter (same name as her
big cat) have babies (2?) and a zoo worth of animals. So glad she's
doing well!

Hey I think they are in Austin so you should definitely go see her!
If you have a chance. Send my love if you go.

    More Love and More Light
   - Rob!

Beach

6:19pm JST Saturday 1 August 2009 (day 14374)

Great day at the beach today, once I was able to tear myself away from making fake money in the fake mafia of Mafia Wars on FB.

Rode the blue bicycle down there, with flipflops in the basket and asphalt zipping quickly by bare toes protected by at least 3 inches of pure sea breeze. Locked the bike at the beach and walked with half full 1 liter bottle to the T bar of rocks on which I like to jog barefoot with various tunes bouncing in my ears. My iPhone's iPod function works well for the music part, and my feet did well on the hopping part; three hours later and they're still happy sore and tingly with blood, all of which remained on the inside.

A few times I had visions of missteps which would likely make me wish I had insurance, so maybe I should get that now that I have some money. But not now while I'm enjoying the sunshine! The very next moment.. guess what happened! I carefully stepped my way down into the tetrapods to enjoy some shade and rested for a bit. (didn't break my ankle or anything; I was just mis-foreshadowing about possible missteps.)

Went to Southern Beach where I found some guys digging a hole. They said they were headed to Brazil. Cool! Got some shaved ice and sugar with azuki beans put in my thermos (to save them from using a plastic bowl). The ice lasted a pretty long time in my thermos while I was rock hopping on tetrapods. Lots of wandering around to explore the area. Got another pic of the guys with the hole to Brazil on the way back.

Emiko lesson

8:09pm JST Saturday 1 August 2009 (day 14374)

Just finished lesson with Emiko, looking over her homework and things in Metropolis magazine. Next week she's asked to meet at 2pm, to which I agreed, though I'd prefer not to meet on Saturday at all; maybe I can ask her to shift to a different day of the week.

The people to my left are speaking Spanish; I think it's a lesson, but definitely more of a chat than "gato means ǭ."

At one point they started talking about Roberto, so I got sidetracked from Emiko for a bit. oops!

Hang with Akiko

8:12pm JST Saturday 1 August 2009 (day 14374)

Akiko is 2 minutes late according to this clock, but she's often late to lessons and chats. I'm looking forward to hanging out with her!
