Work

2:07pm JST Thursday 13 August 2009 (day 14386)

A few grrrs today at work with Alfonzo all telling me how to do stuff instead of listeing to my questions.

7:27pm JST Thursday 13 August 2009 (day 14386)

Things turned out okay though; I should be able to easily finish the project by tomorrow, and then be able to kick through the next ones way faster even.

I had to zoom out to get to lesson with Yurika on time.

According to the timestamp above, she was getting a tssty beverage for me before our lesson started. But in reality, I'm writing all these entries on the way home from The Pink Cow.

Yurika lesson

Good lesson with Yurika; she did great homework as usual... I'm beginning to think, however, that her homework is only helping with her listening, and not so much with her fluency. Like not at all with her fluency. Hmmm I wonder if she's aware of / concerned about that. Hmmm.

Went to The Pink Cow and met Melinda Ortner, who plays piano and vocals for her band, of whom there was one other performer, Keiko on violin.

I kept thinking about Tori Amos and maybe just maybe I was "discovering" a new up-n-coming artist before she hits the mainstream.. But turns out that she's got multiple shows here in Japan and plays live in LA a lot, and is working on her second or third CD.

Keiko played an amazing rendition of a pop song that made me holler "Whooooooaahhhhhh!!!" when she got to the melody... Can't remember the song now, but on violin it was amazing.. Especially since she said she just learned it starting today. (The song, not violin.)

During the show, I kept looking over at a girl who I knew I knew from somewhere, but couldn't remember where. She had the same feeling, so after a bit I went over to her table for a chat. Turns out I met her at World Family for our interviews for TE! (Telephone English) Wow!!! After getting the latest TE talk out of our system (how the job is going for her and how I didn't pursue it to acceptance), we mostly talked iPhone stuff as there were two other iPhone users at the table, David (Pink Cow¤Î) and JP, who knew Melinda Ortner from LA before he moved to Tokyo 1.5 years ago.

Even more interesting than that: Sarah was chatting with Jodi, who she had also met through a job interview, and randomly at the Pink Cow tonight! Wow! As Traci says, "it's a small Pink Cow world."

Talked to Traci for a bit, especially about the plan for Cow-Go: slow and steady, making sure to provide excellent service to everyone along the way. She suggested the same thing in terms of my being single. Just take your time and be true to yourself and your friends.

Excellent advice.
