My art presentation

8:07am JST Monday 2 November 2009 (day 14467)

I did not bring my computer to my art presentation, but I brought some blank paperboard things (I forgot the name in Japanese, but they're often used as signature cards to give as thank youus.) On the train I drew four different pieces, just for an extra boost of things to show at the show.

In attendance: Rimi (organizer), Akiko (my friend from English Village), Mayumi (Akiko's friend from their class on art, Yuko and Yuko, friends of both Akiko and Rimi. One goes by Yu-chan and the other by Yuko, though I kept forgetting which was who so I just called them both Yuko.

I spoke sorta freestyle about the Q "what is art?" and sorta asked some Qs of them and I'm not sure what else, but then had everyone draw on a blank paperboard (I had three big ones and three little ones available so I had pairs じゃんけん to see who got which). Those pieces became exquisite corpses (as far as I understand) and most of them (except the one I started) turned out reasonably interesting, I think.

At the end of the presentation, I asked everyone to choose a piece as a gift, and a color with which I signed the back and gave them. Yuko chose "Anna's Spirals," Yuko chose "Arthor McKinneson," Akiko chose "Spaghetti Spoon," Mayumi chose "No one on 3 Alien Highway," and Rimi chose "Three Ways In," I believe.

Quiz time

8:31am JST Monday 2 November 2009 (day 14467)

Afterward, we headed out to dinner and saw a couple of Halloweenly dressed people on the way from Rimi's house and in the train stations.

Had dinner at a British pub called FootNik, near 大崎 station, at which a group of sports/movie buffs were doing some sort of quiz night. Our group got about 12 points on the quiz, none of which were sports nor British related. I got all three Halloweeen Qs and all three medical Qs and a couple of others.

Tea time

8:31am JST Monday 2 November 2009 (day 14467)

Afterward, we headed out for drinks at a coffee shop, at which I (di)splayed all the unnamed drawings on the table so we could look for names in them. (These were the ones I had done on the train, and the six we had done as exquisite corpses during the presentation. At that time, we/I came up with names for these:

The last one was a source of great entertainment for us, as they tried to figure out what the densely colored portion of the drawing signified. Basically I would not tell them except, "when you know, you'll know." and soon enough, Yuko got it, and then Akiko got it after that, but she kept saying, "well, maybe," so I was like, "no you didn't get it," and then she "gained confidence," so I was like, "aight," and called the piece 二人のhomework, a mangling of Japanese ("2 people") and English ("homework") and a の in between which indicates ownership.

They made joke plans to call each other to figure out the answer and teams of those in the know and those who will go to their graves with the question on top of their mind.

On the way from the coffee shop to the station, I changed the name of 二人のhomework to 三人の homework, because it turns out Akiko did *not* figure it out.

Only later did I name these:

And then at home I renamed 三人のhomework to "Team Yuko"
