New throne

Chez Soness features a porcelain waste disposal unit designed for a traditional asian squat. To support booties used to sitting, a plastic seat converts the squatter into an actual throne, if one has a good enough imagination. People with really good imaginations might even believe that the previous seater's seat wasn't broken. However, even a cursory inspection of the bottom of the old seat would reveal I had implemented a fix of plastic bottle caps and chopsticks to support the seat and keep its parts together, respectively. This lasted a few months before its own failure.

Today, I rode Soness's yellow bike to Shimachu, and purchased a new throne to augment the porcelain squatter. I chose the one whose plastic seemed sturdier (thicker and more flexible, actually) than a new 5800 yen unit identical(?) to the broken one at the crib. 11,500 yen for our lovely new chair, but get this: it has a lock type thing to attach it to the existing porcelain, and it has some kind of hydraulics that ensure it closes silently, so no one can crash it.

I got new contats today as well. Paid for 8 boxes, though they only had 2 in stock. Less than 3 days' work worth of money for officially a year of contacts, though I'll probably extend them longer than that.

I arrived around 4:15pm to meet with Moonie before her trial lesson with Asako (?), who never showed up. Turns out she never confirmed our meeting time for 5pm, but I didn't even notice that until Moonie was like, "and what's her name?" so I looked up the email and realized though I had confirmed the student's first choice of lesson time, she hadn't reconfirmed with me. Dang. So I apologized to Moonie and we just chatted a bit until she had to work.

night, Japanese Lounge

Tonight was Japanese Lounge Night at The Pink Cow. I invited Taki and Emiko, but only Emiko could come (but she invited her friend Izumi). Tonight is the 11th Japanese Lounge Night, so Kumiya gave a bit of a speech (while Traci tried to get the internet connected so they could broadcast the night via UStream) and some of the performers described their instruments. Apparently, shamisens were originally covered with cat skin, but now kangaroo skin is more common. The first performance was two shakuhachi and 1 shamisen, then 1 shakuhachi and 1 shamisen, and then a koto master was solo on koto and then, about halfway through the show, Soness called; she's back in Japan! I was like, "eep!" because the house isn't exactly clean, though basically it just needs vacuum and clean my bed off the living room floor. And refill cat litter. But the laundry is pretty much all done and everything else is in order.

Hmmm! So I was suddenly focused more on emailing Soness than the music or conversation, then told them the situation. They were like, "do you need to go?" and I was like "eep eep, um, yes," and headed out.

Man, I hope I make it home before Soness does, so I can clean up just a bit.
