Entries this day: Grades Yurika_lesson interwebs Grades 8:43pm JST Thursday 4 March 2010 (day 14589) Yesterday, Soness got an email from her university (employer) saying she hadn't yet turned in her grades for classes. She was like, "dang; why couldn't they email me the day before, when I was still in Japan??" cause she's now in Honkers. So I got to mail them for her. No worries on that. But before mailing them, she had to fill in all the grades on the scantrons. She hadn't, though, so I got to do it. It was secretly a bit fun to systematically draw perfect numbers in the correct boxes, plus not having to pay to mail them... whoohooo! icing on the cake That's part of my reply to her thank me email. permalinkYurika lesson 8:57pm JST Thursday 4 March 2010 (day 14589) Great lesson with Yurika, of course, cause she's a great student with great homework and questions. We're up to Seminar 40 by Susan and Usagi Sensei in Cross Cultural Seminar. His name is actually (transliterated as) Osugi Sensei, but I like Usagi better because it's the transliteration of ѽ, which means rabbit. permalinkinterwebs 9:02pm JST Thursday 4 March 2010 (day 14589) "Let me tell ya sonny, when I was a boy, we didn't have pervasive access to the interwebs! In fact, sometimes we had to pay for access! Can you imagine that? Well, it's true! And our connection wasn't built in! We had to carry around devices to connect. You don't know how easy you have it!" Now, I know that we're still living in the stone age of connectivity, limited in bandwidth and transmission speed, and I know our little phones are technological marvels of our time, working hard to give us continuous access while connecting along an evershifting landscape of cell towers.... but dang, why does it take so long to get reception after coming out of the tunnel south of Yokohama? I had to wait a full two minutes! permalinkprev day next day |
