Lesson with K and A today featured only K at first; I told her a bit about urbit until A arrived and we talked about her semi-precious gem necklace and other stuff, including urbit.

Integration group was good today; I was asked to lead the second round, which was a bit tricky since I was on mobile and couldn't see everyone at the same time.

Physics Girl reminded me of the fun that can be had with magnets.

Today before my (ostensibly English) lesson with GG, I bought a meter of thin, shielded copper wire, a couple magnets, and a little light (emitting diode).

I brought with me a 1.5 volt AA battery and a ferrous, though magnetically neutral Allen wrench hex driver which will act as my electro magnet.

I asked M if she can bring scissors, because the wire needs to be cut and stripped on the ends.

I hope it all works! At the very least, we should be able to light the light by moving the magnets down the wire.

However, I'm not sure if the battery will be strong (charged) enough to make a fun electromagnet.

Yup, I got schooled. The electromagnet worked, but the magnet-along-wire did not work! GG still enjoyed the lesson, but it's back to books next week, with 2 new students joining the class!

upgrading server

Server upgrade seemed to go well, but I was surprised to find it only upgrade to 14.04.4 instead of 16.04.

While an upgrade from 14.04 may successfully complete, upgrades
between LTS releases are not enabled by default until the first
point release, and it is recommended to wait until the 16.04.1
point release to upgrade.
