69 beach

We are leaving 69 Beach in Kona after chilling out there a few hours. I walked barefoot on a rocky outcropping which I found more challenging than the average outcropping due to the jagged igneous edges.

We stayed under some trees which provided nice shade and climbing.

I found the water a bit cold, but the locals said it was warm. Hmmm.

This time there were two guys and about 5 girls all doing the same program, related to church. It was some type of personal development program that we were all taking together. There was one big room for all of us, but I did not feel comfortable sleeping in the same room as the women so I chose another room where I could hang out freely.

It was time to go, so we all piled into a van with drivers who did not have maps and we went looping around the city for ages until someone put enough clues together and realized the offramp was actually over *here* and then we could get over *there* or something.

We all piled out of the van all happy to have arrived and I was trying to prepare for some kind of big speech but did not have all of my notes, though I did not know that at the time.

A few of us were queued up outside a big stage, finalizing our notes to give to the coaches. Suddenly it was my turn, and all the attention was on me backstage as they were expecting me to write on small pieces of paper the fears that had been coming up for me.

I had done mine the previous day for my previous speech, but this time I did not have them aleady written, and had to rewrite the. My coach said she was disappointed, so I wrote that down not as a fewar but as a gripe, and another gripe: my pen wasn't working and I cared that into the paper PEN Y U NO WORK kinda thing.

I borrowed a pencil and got my fears written. "I cant do this" etc, and handed them to my coach. Then I was ready, jumping up and down ready to rumble and run up on stage like boom how is every body tonight!!

But I had to pee! I could hear them beginning to announce my name, but I was all, "do I have enough time to pee first?" and they said sure, and there was a door immediately available behind the stage. down a few steps, open the door, turn left, another door with a full bathroom, though it was dark, and I started to

At the recreation area, I quickly migrated to the climbing equipment. No slides or bridges between things; just dense with lots of ropes, curved seats, and stuff, all of which was supported by poles at different angles.

At each end of the set, they had an angled thing that spun, and I was able to get my bodyweight to spin around it, but just once or twice.

Pearl was like the face of friendly Hawaii in Cost*Co. She was selling Mini Pop Tarts, and I just couldn't resist because she and they were so sweet!

uncle roberts

We went to Uncle Robert's tonight and I can see why it's the happenin' place to be each week. Before we browsed the food and various souvenirs and services, we went to the ocean side where I stacked a few rocks in my version of the Hawaiian style.

We quickly saw Shawn (sp) and Ashley (sp) from Nicoco but somehow forgot to buy any gelato from them!

I spent some time listening to Andrew M Crusoe talk about some of his books, but didn't buy any (at first).

Saw a man with a typewriter offering to write poetry on any topic in exchange for any offering. I gave him 1000 yen for the following poem which he wrote after I gave him the topic "Thunder Rabbit":

Thunder Rabbit

The thump of your leg causes cataclysmic quakes, making the earth
shake with the vibrance of your being.  The predators of the
forest think you easy prey, but if they hunt you they won't live
to see another day for the thunder rabbit doesn't play.

waterproof phone not so waterproof

I got some great photos yesterday with my phone in the water. Now it seems my phone doesn't want to do some things that it used to do:

1. turn on
2. everything else

But it does have a new function, acting as a heater for Francois to dry off.
