Entries this day: dream-teaching-leverage mid-month-ish-state-of-my-life-address- snippets-from-my-book-joys-of-listening studying-while-at-work dream teaching leverage Looking into a construction site there was water in one corner and I could see a car was being slowly swamped as the water was getting deeper. The driver had parked near the water and then the car was now halfway submerged at an angle with the engine and driver seat now in the water. The driver had called a black pickup truck to help pull him out and the surface was all slippery clay so the pickup truck was having trouble finding a place to get good grip to get the car out. So we instead set up a simple device which converted lateral motion of a rope into downward pulling motion and made it very easy to pull the car out. There was a round shape full of very fine fiber that we could pull straight down and it would both stay locked in place and easily pull the car up. I asked someone else if you wanted to try and he kept pulling the rope and strange directions not straight down even though I had clearly told him and showed him to pull it straight down. Pulling in the wrong direction made the rope difficult to pull down through the device that kept it in place and I had to quickly rethread the rope through the device. He kept doing it in a bad way and I kept wondering why he was doing that. I thought it was so clear and easy to understand how to do it properly. permalinkmid month ish state of my life address
snippets from my book joys of listening Listening to your heart Listening to your loved ones Listening to friends Listening to strangers Everyone needs to tell their story Everyone needs an empathetic ear Listening within is the key to creativity as the spirit of God flows through you Listening to the silence is the key to enlightenment Witnessing this moment Like at the end of course of miracles there's no reason for words "And then my cat got sick and I think she may have had a problem with a fight and then I went to the doctor and he didn't know what to do so I gave her some medicine and then she was feeling better then I accidentally forgot to give her the medicine and she got sick again and I don't know if I should get for some more medicine but the doctor said it would be okay I'm thinking about going to another doctor because this doctor doesn't realize and you may be too busy so the other one was thinking that I should do something else...." Hear the meaning behind the story as you just let the words slide by. Your presence is what's important here. In this case our speaker is sad because she may lose her cat. Just be present. There's nothing to do. Nothing to change. Nowhere to go.. Once there's a pause in the story, wait a few seconds, maybe a few more seconds, then summarize: "you love your cat." That's enough. Your person will know they are heard. Your words bring them back to this present moment and this simple truth. Our minds are busy. Busy creating a reality for themselves, based in the past based on the future based on everything except this present moment. Sometimes these stories need a place to land before thinker can become the witnesser of this present moment. You can be the place for these stories to land without getting caught up in them yourself. You can bring healing to the world by offering the place for the stories to land. permalinkstudying while at work I'm at JB School and just finished seven pages of Japanese KUMON during my break, along with studying some Latin and Japanese on Duolingo. Hide is still absent due to an injury. I wonder if Akiko will join. She usually arrives about ten minutes late. The kids classes were fun today; they are beginning to use the language more creatively. Having a variety of tangible props helps a lot. Today they choose three animals and ranked their ability to run/walk/sing. Studying Latin is great. Words like dormitory, sorority, fraternity, paternity, maternity pop right out like oh wow! permalinkprev day next day |
